DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the provision of nursing support services in the clinic area by assisting provider with exams, treatments and procedures. This position works under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Director-SES for DOH-Okeechobee. The incumbent is expected to perform general clinic duties including taking client histories, provide counseling and health education and providing medications and family planning supplies following provider's orders.

REQUIREMENTS:

Licensure as a Practical Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27. Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of a disaster or as needed. EMERGENCY DUTY: Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs nursing assessments and documents observations appropriately

Interprets for Spanish speaking clients and clinical providers.

Documents client histories, vitals, BMI and height/weight into Electronic Health Records

Provides counseling and health education

Performs general clinic duties including pregnancy testing, providing medications and family planning supplies following provider's orders

Codes and signs super bill

Maintains adequate supplies for exam rooms

Checks and documents temperature on immunization refrigerator and freezer each day

Collects specimens and veni-punctures, completed laboratory requisitions

Assists with STD, HIV and Hepatitis outreach in the community and county jail

Participates in planned community outreach and testing programs

Performs tasks for ADAP program

Acts as liaison between OB Providers, Infectious Disease Provider, Hug-Me Nurse, Healthy Start, for positive HIV clients; for the compliance of their healthcare, pre or perinatal care of their infant.

Travels attends meeting, training and educational programs and participates in QI activities

Provides case management services to clients enrolled in the ADAP (drug assistance) program

Makes referrals as needed and tracks to completion

Prepares, submits required reports

Utilizing the concepts and practices of continuous quality improvement, follows QI plans and tools to include regular process and chart audits

Prepares biweekly leave and attendance records and daily employee activity records (EARS)

Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to travel throughout Okeechobee counties to ensure service provision

Ability to collaborate effectively with community partners

Skill is the use of computers including Microsoft Office applications (word, excel, e-mail, etc.) and in the use of automated client databases such as Health Management System (HMS) or a comparable client database

Ability to accurately document and maintain client medical charts (manually or electronically)

Ability to understand, interpret & apply applicable rules, regulations, policies & procedures

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
