Responsibilities

Primary Responsibility: Performs complete disassembly, inspection and reassembly of wind turbine and industrial gearboxes. Work conducted in shop, on site and up tower. Interact with customers in the field.

Essential Tasks:

  • Utilizes heating, cutting torches, hydraulic presses, high pressure extraction devices, heavy power tools, and liquid nitrogen to remove couplings and disassemble high pressure joints.
  • Rig Heavy Industrial Equipment on and off vehicles with overhead cranes and level and align machine for testing with motor Mark matched components and label disassembled parts.
  • Sketch part assembly diagram with enough organization for another tech to reassemble with minimal questioning.
  • Ability to use and read micrometers for critical measurements.
  • Ability to operate small lathe or grinder to machine components for small infractions before reassembly, i. e. spacers and key stock.
  • May include drilling and taping holes as necessary.
  • Clean parts via power wash or hands for inspection team review.
  • Disassemble and reassemble all machine components including bearings and couplings and high pressure joints (4000 bar).
  • Creates and documents failure analysis reports, orders parts.
  • Performs trouble-shooting and final testing.
  • Identifies field failures, communicates with customer scheduled repairs in the field, makes travel arrangements and creates expense reports upon return.
  • Boroscoping skills.
  • Performs related tasks or works on special projects/teams as required.
  • May supervise a small crew.
Requirements:

Educational Requirements: H. S. diploma or equivalent required. Technical or vocational training strongly preferred. Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Experience Requirements: 5 plus years hands on mechanical repair and inspection experience required. Previous field service travel experience. Machining and measuring tool experience. Experience in the wind industry is viewed as a plus. Machine repair, hydraulic, and electrical experience a plus. Ability to read electric schematic and blueprints a plus.

Other Requirements: Must be in good physical condition and have the ability to climb 300 feet with 35 lbs. of gear on them or work in confined spaces. Ability to work alone, is self-motivating and a team player. Follow the Environmental policies and Safety Standards of the Wind industry, Customer as well as ZF in the field or shop. Have the flexibility to travel domestically and internationally with the possibility of up to 90% travel for projects up to 6 weeks. Work may include weekends and overtime. Communicate to customers on repairs both on the phone and in person with understanding. Skilled in basic computer and documentation skills- Microsoft office Suite. Current Driver s license
