Ross IT provides the Michigan Ross community with a comprehensive suite of technologies, web-based business solutions, and support to help our shared instructional, research, administrative and service missions.

Purpose

As a member of Ross IT the purpose of the role is to be the point of contact and drive training and communication initiatives and projects. This relates to, the faculty, staff and students, and involves technology, classrooms, instructional material and training; current and new IT services education; customer communication channels, and technology web content.

Responsibilities*

Technology Training and Instructional Design

* Design, organize, prepare and conduct complex training and educational programs for faculty, staff and students. Follow the instructional design next practices and methods, including the ADDIE Model. These programs cover but are not limited to IT items such as Google, classroom & conference room technology, MBox, virtual lab, SalesForce, Bluejeans, and GoTo Webinar. Educational programs take the form of presentations, departmental sessions, one-on-one sessions, brown bags, drop-in sessions, Q & A, and group discussions, which include not only current IT services but may involve possible future technologies.

* Assess, Design and develop engaging instructional content that meets current customer needs but also addresses gaps that may exist concerning training opportunities. This material involves guides, instructions, technology aides, quick reference, FAQ's, knowledgebase articles, videos, and handbooks, related to current Ross IT services and their use within the Ross community and campus.

* Plan, prepare and deliver technology orientation or timed training/communication to Ross programs and areas which may involve faculty, staff and students. Regularly review and amend printed material to ensure accuracy. Create new materials related to IT changes, new area requests and the changing IT needs of an existing program area.

* Meet on a scheduled basis with units to learn and assess their technology training needs, gaps. Create and execute training and communication plans that fulfill those needs.

* Provide one-on-one software expertise to the Ross community by answering questions, providing in-person help and, as appropriate, providing classroom training on standard software applications and other general technologies currently in use at the school.

* Plan proactive and timely public messages/newsletters (i.e., "what's new with M+Google," "how to back up your email before you leave," "Ross community technology outages", "Ross community technology and security reminders and next practices, etc.)

Manage Unit Communications

* Serve as community liaison. Work closely with the community to identify trends, gaps and services and bring that information to Ross IT departmental leadership. Serve as a sounding-board for ideas as a community user advocate.

* Answer general inquiries that involve communication activities and opportunities, via email, in-person, social media channels, and customer forums.

* Develop, drive and implement plans for school wide technology communication, publicity and outreach. Activities include but are not limited to, communication channels, social media opportunities, email campaigns, and mobile devices (BYOD).

* Draft and send a wide variety of messages on behalf of Ross IT to faculty, staff, and students. Messages will focus on but are not limited to, service interruptions, reminders, informational, upcoming IT events, software license renewal, semester software requests, and customer IT surveys. Such communications should be professional, well drafted, audience focused and sensitive.

* Proofread outgoing material for the Ross IT Directors.

* Monitor campus IT communication groups and emails for IT events and outages in order to draft and send to the Ross community time sensitive, informative announcements, breaking news, pressing phishing warnings, security incidents, new service offerings, service retirement, future services, and customer action items, etc.

Website Content Management

* Oversee the technology content portion(s) of the Ross IT website. Activities in this area include the drafting of website content, review and editing of existing content, and working with others concerning updates.

Technology Community Activities

* Take part in special interest groups, relevant talks, forums and symposiums around campus on behalf of Ross IT. Partner with such groups to discuss training and communication activities and outcomes utilizing shared services when possible, that broaden and further develop Ross IT capabilities in these areas.

Required Qualifications*

* Bachelor's Degree with minimum 4 years of experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

* Demonstrated technical aptitude.

* Demonstrated working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology.

* Demonstrated skill in educational program and training creation.

* Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, illustrator) with demonstrated ability to take concept and create training or communication elements.

* Demonstrated skill in ability to write customer facing material related to training, emails and general communications and other organizational items.

* Ability to independently manage deadlines in response to rapidly changing priorities.

* Team-oriented, flexible, and focused on meeting objectives.

* Demonstrated strong presentation and general communication skills.

* Ability to translate highly complex technical information to a wide audience of varying backgrounds without over simplifying.

* Demonstrated project and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.

* Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative.

* Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Desired Qualifications*

* A degree in Communications or a related field.

* Previous experience working in a technical role or department.

* Familiar with marketing concepts.

* Requires the ability to travel to various locations to conduct work and deliver materials.

* The person in this position routinely presents information at events.

* The person in this position occasionally moves through the facility to attend meetings/events and access files or information.

* May require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
