A day in the life…

As the Director of Public Relations and Event Marketing for the Nordstrom New York Flagship store, you’ll be a triple threat – Public Relations whiz, Event pro and Social Media genius. In this role, you'll…
  • Develop PR strategies in partnership with the Corporate PR team to support the company’s New York City store opening.
  • Manage the PR agency and drive execution of the NY opening PR and events strategy.
  • Act as the Public Relations contact for the NYC store securing fashion news and event media coverage and fielding media inquiries in partnership with the Corporate PR team when necessary. Maintain excellent media relationships.
  • Pre-opening, join forces with the Corporate Event, PR and Charitable Giving teams in Seattle to field and assess sponsorship, charitable giving and promotional partnership opportunities.
  • Effectively hire, develop and lead an efficient and effective team, including PR agencies as needed.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of major store events and promotions while training store teams to put on smaller turn-key events and promotions following Nordstrom brand standards.
  • Maintain PR and Event budget expectations and expense accounts.
  • Represent Nordstrom at community events to network and maintain an understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Post-opening, develop and implement an overall marketing strategy for the NYC Flagship store that includes Events, PR and Social media beginning with the Men’s store opening in Spring 2018. Sustain store awareness through ongoing press outreach for store activities, launches and key initiatives.
  • Regularly report to leadership on relevant coverage and other communications matters.
  • Develop communication plans, Q&As, press releases and presentations.
  • Develop messaging documents, pitch calendars and additional press materials to support media outreach for company’s top priority initiatives including national launches, exclusive partnerships and new store openings.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Affairs & PR and core operational areas, including Marketing and Events.
Qualifications

  • Are an experienced retail event, PR and social media pro who understands and knows how to harness the power of cross channel marketing.
  • Use your sharp analytical skills to assess business needs and develop effective action plans.
  • Develop strong working relationships with various business partners.
  • Are a motivated individual who thrives in a team environment, but can also work and make decisions independently.
  • Have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment thanks to your strong problem solving and organizational skills, follow through and ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Embrace working a flexible schedule, which can include nights and weekends and is based on store needs.
  • Highly experienced communicator with a record of managing successful public relations for a leading brand and/or Fortune 500 company.
  • Strong background in media relations and working with the press; experience coaching executives on media messaging.
  • Ability to build consensus and lead across departments and all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills.
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in PR, corporate communications, investor relations, marketing or related field.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and when facing tight deadlines.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and able to make sound decisions without a lot of direction.
  • Must be solutions-driven and detail-focused.
  • Ability to manage well to achieve results.
  • Willing to travel.
