About this job

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direction of a designated supervisor, responsible for performing a variety

of duties to ensure the smooth and profitable operation of the assigned U-Haul location. Make sure all

equipment assigned to the center is accounted for. Note: Essential duties are not exhaustive and may be

supplemented as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Position requires the ability to provide excellent customer service.

1. Reasonable and predictable attendance is essential.

2. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.

3. Must complete 1-2-3 Punch Program within 90 days of hire (unless already certified).

4. Must be familiar with all U-Haul products & services in order to assist customers and give instruction if needed.

5. Must know how to use various forms, rate guides, maps, etc.

6. Perform light mechanical repairs as required (check oil, antifreeze, water hoses, batteries, etc.)

7. Perform rental worthy inspection of U-Haul trucks, trailers, car-top carriers, tow bars, hitches, storage rooms

and GRI.

8. Ensure that all equipment dispatched is "fit for intended use" and "customer ready" and that the customer returns

the equipment in the same condition (allowing for normal wear and tear).

9. Charge the customer as needed for abnormal damage or cleaning.

10. Determine customer satisfaction and advise supervisor or appropriate marketing company personnel of repairs or

changes needed.

11. Safely hook-up of trailers, tow bars, car-top carriers, etc. for customers.

12. Instruct customers on safe use of rental equipment.

13. Maintain inside and outside appearance of equipment, gas trucks. Check logbooks for accuracy.

14. May be required to transfer equipment from one location to another.

15. Must be responsible for managing cash-handling procedures.

16. Must use the customer service form with every customer inquiry.

17. May be required to install hitches as needed.

TOOLS/SKILLS/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Reading and comprehension of newsletters, reference materials and bulletins;

ability to operate a personal computer (PC) and have good math aptitude; ability to communicate (verbal and written) and have

legible handwriting. Must be able to use basic hand tools; basic mechanical knowledge; ability to work in stressful situations

with irate customers. Must have good telephone manners and etiquette.

Flow of work and character of duties involve the coordination of manual dexterity and normal mental and visual attention.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending,

crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; lifting minimum 50 lbs assisted or unassisted.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g.,

working around moving parts or machines, fumes or irritant chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such

as masks, goggles, gloves or shields.

OTHER: Position requires a valid driver's license and a good driving record to operate motor vehicles with both types of

transmission (automatic or standard). Adhere to all local vehicular regulations while driving.

Position requires the ability to maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and comply with all safety rules and

procedures. It is mandatory that all accidents and injuries be reported immediately to supervisor.

Grow and develop personally and professionally by enrolling in U-Haul University, e-Learning courses. Build skills and increase

job knowledge to achieve both short and long-term career goals.

Maintain just-in-time production methods, along with total quality control at the source of the work being performed.

Read company publications such as "U-Haul News" and other publications provided by supervisor to understand U-Haul's

Primary Service Objective (to provide better and better product and service to more and more people at a lower and lower

cost.)

Use integrity and discretion in safeguarding confidential data handled or obtained in the normal performance of duties.

Perform other related duties as required or assigned including assisting in the recovery of lost or stolen U-Haul property and equipment. The person assigned to this job is subject to performing any duties relating to serving the customer.
