JOB DESCRIPTION: Supervises dosimetry staff and organizes dosimetry coverage for radiation oncology sites assigned. Is proficient in the treatment planning aspect of patient care including simulation, computerized planning and treatment setup. Interviews, orients, trains, supervises and ensures the on-going competency of dosimetry staff. Provides support and assistance for other medical dosimetry activities related to patient care and staff education. Performs other related duties as required.

PATIENT CARE AND ADVOCACY: Is proficient in the treatment planning aspect of the care of the patients including simulation, computerized planning and treatment setup. Maintains skills to assess and care for patients of all ages. Produces plans with all pertinent setup instructions to accurately deliver prescribed treatment.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

SAFETY, SECURITY AND HEALTH: Follows all safety requirements of the hospital and department.

STAFF RESOURCE: Confers with Radiation Oncologists regarding patient disease and treatment prescription to provide optimal isodose plans. Develops comparative treatment plans of different modalities to support physicians. Assists physicists in the quality management process of the department including dose calculations and radiation protection. Provides requested support to the therapists in simulation and treatment setup. Provides dosimetry instruction as needed to trainees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB). Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years experience as dosimetrist.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
