Position Purpose

This position is critical to drive implementation of our food safety management systems and ensure compliance to Cargill, regulatory and customer requirements at a Cargill Agricultural Supply Chain North America (CASC NA) facility. Applies an in-depth scientific understanding of quality assurance and food/feed safety technology and processes across a department in the following areas of focus: testing and auditing process documentation, data collection and analysis, and facilitating knowledge transfer. Leads a team to provide solutions to mid to complex food safety and/or quality issues/concerns across a department. This position will be a key member of the location leadership team and the CASC NA FSQR leadership team.

Principal Accountabilities

40% People/resource/budget management -- lead talent management, training of employees in FSQR organization or FSQR related duties for one or more facilities with large number of FSQR resources. Accountable for selection, training, development performance management and engagement for a large number of direct/indirect reports. Develop/implement short range (tactical) FSQR plans in alignment with BU and local plans. Actively participates in development of FSQR intiatives and budgets, sets accurate and challenging budgets, key member of location leadership team.

15% Lead a team to conduct routine to difficult sampling, testing and auditing of products/ ingredients/ suppliers to ensure compliance to government, customer and Cargill standards on food/feed safety and quality (e.g., RCA mapping, moisture levels, customer audits, corporate food safety audits, labeling). Use general scientific understanding to make recommendations on testing, trends and auditing methods

15% Use pre-defined criteria and slight modification to inspect plant operations environment and equipment to ensure compliance with quality and food/feed safety standards. Conduct complex laboratory trials and perform troubleshooting activities which will provide knowledge and add value to Cargill and our Customers/Suppliers products, processes and equipment. Ensure audit and test data/results are documented accurately and appropriately in the correct Information Management Systems.

15% Develop, implement and assess process/systems -- plans and directs all FSQR programs and management of change, implements product specification systems, drives continuous improvement, provides input and recommendations to location leaders and BU FSQR leaders related to base/non-base capital needs to maintain food safety leadership position in one or more locations

15% Shape food safety, quality and regulatory culture/reputation - interface with managers/directors within the business unit and represent FSQR as part of the local management team. Act as liason between customer and operations to ensure standards/expectations are met. Build and develop effective engaged FSQR workforce, lead implementation of BU FSQR strategy/tactical plans.

Required

* Bachelor's degree in science or other applicable field.

* Five years experience in food safety and/or quality related related activities of which a minimum of one year in a plant setting.

* Demonstrated leadership ability to develop team members, work effectively in teams and drive continuous improvement in a food plant setting

* Intermediate HAACP Knowledge/Implementation - Applies HAACP to identify & control food safety hazards

* Intermediate FSSC / GFSI implementation / maintenance knowledge -- understands FSSC requirments and ability to implement, maintain and drive continuous improvement in a plant setting

* Intermediate Customer Specifications Management - ensures products meet customer requirements

* Basic Auditing/Compliance - Applies basic auditing and quality compliance skills to identify and manage risks/compliance.

* Basic Supplier Quality Assurance -- identifies & addresses basic supplier quality issues

* Basic Knowledge of Food Laws & Regulations - Stays up-to-date and ensures compliance with food laws and regulations.

* Basic Risk Assessment - Conducts and communicates the results of a scientific evaluation of the known or potential adverse health effects resulting from human or animal exposure to food borne hazards.

* Up to 15% travel

Preferred

* Technical knowledge in the areas of food safety, quality and regulatory compliance

* Degree in Food Science, Food Safety or similar a plus

* Operations and/or customer facing experience a plus

* Auditing certification or experience

* Project development or involvement experience

* Behaviors consistent with Cargill's ethics and values per the Cargill leadership model

* Demonstrated track record of applying critical thinking skills to effectively mitigate risk in a manufacturing environment

* Basic Supplier Quality Assurance - Identifies and addresses supplier quality issues.

* Intermediate Auditing/Compliance - Applies advanced auditing and quality compliance skills to identify and manage risks/compliance

* Communication skills in both verbal and written formats, able to navigate computer based programs

* Intermediate Knowledge of Food Laws & Regulations - Stays up-to-date and ensures compliance with food laws and regulations.
