Description of Duties/Essential Functions Benefits Supplemental Questions

Under general supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, and the clinical direction of the Charge Nurse, serves as a shift nurse clinically directing lower level staff in the delivery of patient care and treatment consistent with individual treatment plans; participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team; provides professional nursing care to mentally ill patients on a forensic living unit.

Minimum Requirements:Requires a valid State of Illinois license as a registered nurse. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing, or requires an Associates degree in nursing plus 1 year of professional nursing experience. Requires knowledge of current nursing theory, principles, and practices. Requires knowledge on operating specialized medical equipment and pharmacology of commonly prescribed medications and drugs including normal and abnormal reactions. Requires ability to promote effective patient interactions. Requires physical ability to pass CPI training; requires physical ability to physically restrain patients to prevent them from hurting themselves or others; requires physical ability to conduct unit rounds; requires physical ability to respond to facility-wide medical emergencies, and to acquire necessary medical supplies in a reasonable time period; requires visual and hearing acuity levels to enable them to observe, monitor, and redirect patient behavior; requires ability to perform and deliver mouth to mask CPR and manual resuscitation. Requires ability to write clear & cohesive statements in the clinical records. Requires mental ability to exercise good judgment in all human interactions & patient care activities; requires critical thinking skills to analyze, interpret, calculate, plan and direct. Requires ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with direct care staff; requires ability to present educational materials in a clear and concise manner. Requires ability to identify most appropriate positive treatment regime and carry out that treatment in accordance with best practice and behavior modification.
