About this job

Who We Are
At Sears UX, we're changing both our brand and experience to embrace the transformation of retail. We seek a UX architect to join our Core Shopping team, responsible for making products easy to find and desirable to buy on desktop and mobile. We're a pragmatic, close-knit group of UX designers, researchers, architects and copywriters lead by veteran UX leadership with 20+ years in the profession.

Still, we are far from satisfied. We want smart, talented people to help us solve the big problem - how do you change an existing, enterprise scale e-commerce site into something better? The basic information architecture of e-commerce sites has changed little in ten years. At a high level, most retail sites are almost identical. If we did something different, something better, what should it be?

You are...
- A true architect with a core understanding of flow-level experience and information architecture at scale.
- Fearless in the face of complexity, undeterred by legacy, with the ability to effortlessly communicate the abstract to stakeholders.
- A self-directed and passionate problem-solver, able to ideate outside professional assumptions and current industry practice.
And you have...
  • A degree in the design professions (BS/BA in HCI, Human Factors, Industrial Design required or equivalent professional work related experience
  • 4+ years related professional experience
  • Expertise in the relevant tools of our trade
  • Ability to delivery high quality work consistently and on time
  • Attention to detail, while also considering the big picture
  • Excelled communication skills - in person, written and presentation
  • A portfolio displaying an understanding of user-centered design (online portfolio preferred)
And it would also be great if...
  • You have a Master's Degree in the design professions
  • Experience in retail/merchandising/marketing, advertising, or designing digital products for a large enterprise ecommerce retailer
  • You have the necessary programming/technical chops to create architecture-scale prototypes.
  • You have some knowledge of cognitive psychology or behavioral economics.
  • You can write well.
  • You're not afraid to learn new things.
PS - Sears values work/life balance. Our downtown location has a huge rooftop deck with great views, a full service bike room, and an on-site gym.
We are looking for a Senior UX Architect to create the ultimate mobile and desktop retail experience and change the face of ecommerce. This position is full-time and based in Chicago.
