Job Description:

3M is seeking a Diamond Turning Machinist for the Electronics and Energy Business Group (EEBG) located Maplewood, Minnesota. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Diamond Turning Machinist within the Structured Surfaces Group, will be responsible for the set-up, operation, and support of diamond-turning equipment. You will work with a skilled team to produce high-precision R&D and production tooling that supports a wide range of businesses throughout 3M.

This opportunity will involve second shift (5 days per week, Monday through Friday, 8 hour shifts) or weekend shift (4 days per week, Friday through Monday, 10 hour shifts). The initial training period will be first shift, 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, 8 hour shifts.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

* Setting up diamond cutting tools and other associated equipment to produce diamond machined parts

* Performing test-cuts to determine machine offsets and other process parameters

* Doing metrology and inspections to determine whether machined parts meet specifications

* Writing and editing M and G code CNC part programs

* Providing input and feedback to the engineering staff regarding plans for or results of machining projects

* Performing minor maintenance tasks and troubleshooting of diamond machining equipment.

* Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

* High school diploma/GED or higher from an accredited institution

* Minimum of one (1) year (academic or industry) of precision machining experience on CNC lathes and/or mills

* Minimum of one (1) year (academic or industry) of programming and editing M and G code CNC part programs on CNC lathes and/or mills

Preferred Qualifications:

* Associates/Two Year Technical degree or higher from an accredited university

* 3M experience

* Diamond-machining experience on multi-axis diamond-turning machines

* Experience with precision metrology techniques including interferometers, profilometers and/or confocal microscopes

* Experience with tool and die making

* Microsoft Word and Excel experience

* Math and trigonometry experience

* Strong oral and written communication skills

Location: Maplewood, Minnesota

Travel: Not anticipated
