Position Summary: The nurse intern program is a skill based paid internship for nursing students providing opportunities to gain clinical skills and experience. The program runs for 11 weeks, beginning May 21, 2018, extending into early August. Interns rotate weekly to 10 different clinic and hospital departments including those in Eau Claire, Osseo, Menomonie and/or Barron. Departmental rotations will be scheduled 4 of 5 weekdays with optional shadowing experiences and professional development opportunities on the 5th weekday.

Responsibilities: The Student Nurse Intern provides direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in the appropriate setting across the continuum of care. He/she communicates with the registered nurse about changes in the patient's clinical condition, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. The student nurse intern is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in the patient's condition or response to treatment. Additionally, the student nurse intern is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. The American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics provide a basis for practice.

Qualifications: Clinical experience. Qualified to achieve senior status in a baccalaureate nursing program by Fall 2018 or will have completed two semesters of an ADN program by June 2018. Course work including nursing fundamentals, pharmacology and basic nursing skills.

Additional Qualifications: Flexibility (Works flexible hours, which include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends). Basic computer skills. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Problem solving, verbal and written communication, and team building. Basic quality improvement concepts and techniques.

License or Certification: Current BLS Certification.

Compensation Detail: This position has a predetermined rate of $13.75 per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 64 to 72 hours every two week pay period

Schedule Details: Day shift; Monday-Friday (4 of 5 days will be spent in a department and the 5th day will be optional for shadowing experiences and professional development opportunities).
