As a vital member of OIE's team, the Digital Information Accessibility Coordinator oversees systematic efforts to provide an accessible campus-wide IT environment, including hardware, software applications, web content, web tools, and other online and classroom technologies.

Responsibilities*

Specific job duties are anticipated to include:

* Serving as an auditing, training, and consulting resource to all U-M campuses and units.

* Working closely with staff in the Information Technology Services division to improve the accessibility of core University products.

* Working with third-party vendors and the University's procurement partners to ensure procurement of accessible products and improve the accessibility of third-party products.

* Developing, providing, and collaborating on training materials for campus units.

* Maintaining the University's web accessibility resource website.

* Administering audits of campus websites using various tools including the Deque Worldspace enterprise evaluation platform and providing feedback to relevant stakeholders in order to address any accessibility or usability issues.

* Support and contribute to the University's Web Accessibility Working Group.

* Working with campus partners to draft policies and standards related to the University's responsibilities in providing accessible IT software systems and online materials, and monitoring effectiveness of those policies and standards.

* Staying informed about emerging web, mobile, assistive, information, instructional technologies and accessibility solutions.

* Developing and providing presentations on digital information accessibility topics for a wide variety of audiences.

Technical Expertise

Experience with and working knowledge of:

* Disability law as it applies to higher education and web, information, and technology accessibility.

* Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, ARIA 1.1, WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices 1.1.

* Universal and inclusive design principles.

* HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript.

* Standard web production processes and workflows.

* Mobile accessibility.

* Digital classroom tools, such as G-Suite and Canvas.

* Common digital office and workspace tools, including: Microsoft Office and PDF accessibility (PDF remediation a plus).

* Common assistive technologies, including the following screen readers: NVDA, VoiceOver, and iOS VoiceOver. (Working knowledge of JAWS, Narrator, ChromeVox Next, Orca, and Talkback are a plus.)

* Common voice activation accessibility concepts, including: WSR or Dragon Naturally Speaking.

* Common accessibility evaluation tools, including: Deque Worldspace and aXe, Wave, AInspector Sidebar/FAE.

* Common website creation and content management systems, including: Drupal and Wordpress.

Required Qualifications*

* Minimum of 3 years' experience with digital information accessibility evaluation and reporting, including the above-outlined technical competencies

* Excellent communications, customer-relations, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills

* Ability to work effectively with diverse populations

* Ability to work productively in a complex, decentralized and fast-paced setting

* High productivity in an environment that has high expectations

* Ability to respond effectively to change

* Demonstrated commitment to accessibility

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent background

Desired Qualifications*

* Experience working in a higher education environment

* Educational background in computer science, information technology or equivalent
