Position Summary

The Corporate Communications group and Media Relations group are both functions of the Global Communications & Public Affairs Department. Corporate Communications is charged with internal communications for Marriott, to include external amplification of Marriott’s corporate storytelling through an agile and integrated platform that includes digital and social media and digital news distribution. Media Relations is responsible for developing and executing a strategic, innovative and integrated corporate communications program that both drives the business and advances the company’s reputation through proactive and reactive external media relations campaigns and serving as a day-to-day strategist for internal clients, with frequent interaction and counsel to various top-level executives.

The Senior Program Specialist will provide support to the Vice President, Corporate Communications and to the entire Corporate Communications team, as well as provide direct support to the Vice President, Media Relations. This position will be responsible for supporting a variety of projects and initiatives related to internal communications, corporate communications and external media relations, in addition to other administrative duties and special projects. The position reports to the Vice President, Corporate Communications.

Expected Contributions

The Senior Program Specialist will be responsible for the following:
  • Provide support to the Vice President, Corporate Communications and Vice President, Media Relations, including planning and scheduling travel arrangements, reserving hotel accommodations, processing expense reports, scheduling meetings, editing documents such presentations, agendas, memos, letters, spreadsheets, and other business documents. Assist in other administrative duties on an as needed basis.
  • Manage and respond to requests for information in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and prepare for Group and other general meetings, including scheduling conference rooms, preparing reports or agenda items, prior distribution of materials, room set-up, audio visual equipment set-up, conference line initiation, and food and beverage arrangements.
  • Support program and project development, including on-line research, benchmarking, internal + external video and social media content collaboration, and developing and updating presentations, program materials, key messaging, and fact sheets.
  • Research and provide recommendations and executive summaries to department leaders regarding awards for which Marriott is the recipient and awards for which Marriott can apply; research and provide executive summaries regarding external Corporate Communications and Media Relations clients.
  • Draft and edit Keynote presentations for executive meetings.
  • Manage Marriott Executive calendar sent weekly to communicators and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist with communications plans for company and department initiatives.
  • Process payroll for the Group; provide support to other team members’ projects as needed, and relevant event logistics.






Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess the knowledge, skills, and experience as follows:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in communications or related field required.
  • Expertise using a Mac computer and creating Keynote presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office – demonstrated expertise in Outlook (managing calendar), visual presentations, photo selection, cropping and captioning, plus experience working with Excel. Adobe Suite, Final Cut and social media monitoring tools are a plus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; high degree of professionalism; polished presence.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and follows through on tasks to completion.
  • Ability to work well under pressure; anticipate, set and adapt to continually changing workload priorities; and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Detailed oriented with effective time management skills; ability to work independently and as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Positive, can-do attitude; professional demeanor; strong customer service orientation; good judgment and discretion; diligence, dependability, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and participate in the logistics and management of special events and volunteer projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and documents; flexibility for overtime when needed.


Education: High school diploma required; bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or public relations preferred
