Civil Drafter Designer - Full-time / Part-time

Kelly Engineering Resources has an outstanding long term contract/contract to hire opportunity for a Civil Engineering Design Drafter. In this role, you would join a growing start up engineering firm that specializes in underground utility projects.
Job Scope of the Civil Engineering Design Drafter: With minimal supervision you will create underground civil drawings as per rough sketch from Civil Engineers, Sr. Designers, project & permit requirements, customer specifications and internal design standards.
Essential Responsibilities of the Civil Engineering Design Drafter:

• Work with Engineers and Project Managers to develop, plan and profile civil drawings for underground utility designs by:
  
  
  
  • developing utility base maps,
  
  
  • determining the line of lay, and method of construction installation per client s standards and in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices.
  
  
  
  


• Ensure drawings are completed in conformance to local permitting requirements and within required permitting deadlines.


• Utilize AutoCAD to create base maps by manipulating survey data: establishing the public right-of-way, applying location of existing above and underground utilities from atlases/record drawings received from clients and other municipality processes.


• Maintains design and engineering standards via QA/QC process.


• Works closely with other utility agencies and contractors.


• Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for construction.


• Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to trackers.


• Create record drawings from field notes.

Qualifications of the Successful Civil Engineering Design Drafter:

• Proficiency in:
  
  
  
  • AutoCAD 2013 or later
  
  
  • Creating base maps or using base mapping technique
  
  
  • Any Underground utility (electrical, telecom, or piping, etc.) drafting or design
  
  
  
  


• Minimum education and years of experience, either of the following:
  
  
  
  • Associates degree in CAD or Civil Engineer and 2+ years experience with the above listed proficiency
  
  
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and 1+ years experience with the above listed proficiency
  
  
  
  


• Must be able to prioritize multiple projects/tasks and respond to the needs to multiple project managers.


• Must be able to work in a fast paced deadline drive environment.


• Strong organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills in order to work in a group dynamic that includes project managers, other designers & drafters, both internally and with external clients.


• Pluses include any of the following experience:
  
  
  
  • Prior experience working with City of Chicago permitting offices or knowledge of Chicago permitting process or work with Office of Underground Coordination
  
  
  • Design of multi-phased traffic control plans during construction permitting process with City of Chicago.
