Vesuvius USA, a world leader in the design, engineering, manufacturing and delivery of refractory products, systems and services for high-technology industrial applications, is currently seeking a first shift CNC Programmer for our Champaign, Illinois location.
Purpose
Under direct supervision, writes, edits and optimizes CNC programs to create mechanical parts on 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machines. Creates highly diversified and complex programs for contour milling, drilling, boring, tapping, of company parts while adhering to all safety features of the machines and plant.
Key Results Areas:
Ensure department process instructions, safety rules, and practices are followed
Create and modify programs to accept more efficient tooling
Develop tool holding fixtures and select cutting tools
Integrate work with Engineering, Production, Quality and Scheduling departments for value stream effectiveness
Maintain programs to current print revisions
Accepts, performs, and is accountable for efficiency and quality results of assigned duties
Make requested equipment for preventative maintenance available to Maintenance
Notify supervisor of any problems and/or difficulties and provide possible solutions
Ensure programming office is kept neat and orderly at all times
Knowledge/Experience/Skills Needed
Degree in Programming, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or Design
3-5 years experience writing CNC programs in a machining environment
Work experience as a machinist or its equivalent
Experience with Siemens NX software or equivalent, and G&M codes
Basic computer and keyboarding skills
Able to read and understand process work instructions, blueprints, and engineering drawings
Basic math and trigonometry
Experience operating all types of basic machine shop equipment such as drills, mills, lathes, grinders, saws
Experience operating 3, 4, 5 axis CNC machines
Knowledge and understanding of standard and metric terminology
Ability to problem solve
Ability to determine and calculate proper speeds and feeds
Must be familiar with controls and instrumentation, tooling, and machine set up
Working knowledge of basic safety policies and procedures
Lean Manufacturing knowledge a plus
Must be self-confident and pay close attention to detail
Time management and organization
Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
Must have a professional attitude as well as a passion for continuous improvement
