Bus Escort

Classical is a National Blue Ribbon award-winning network of schools located in the South Bronx. Though our neighborhoods are historically under-served, we provide a world-class, well-rounded education to our scholars through a classical curriculum that includes art, music, Latin, debate and citizenship.
Classical Charter Schools Bus Escorts protect and supervise our scholars to and from their homes. Most important is managing behavior, to ensure all scholars are safe and provide the driver freedom to operate the school bus safely. Further, it is important to establish behavior on the bus that matches what will be expected in classrooms.
Bus Escorts work approximately 4 hours per day, in two 2 hour shifts. Hours vary by bus route, but bus escorts must be available approximately 6:00am-8:00am and 4:00pm-6:00pm.
Daily responsibilities include:

• Supervise scholars while on the bus, strictly enforcing behavioral expectations.
• Seat scholars based on their behavior and bus stop order.
• Escort scholars in organized lines between the school building and bus.
• Call the school after the last scholar is dropped off, so that staff are able to leave.
• Call the school if a parent is not at the bus stop to coordinate a pick up time.

• Certification through the Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) preferred. If not already certified at the time of hire, Bus Escorts may apply for certification, which involves several examinations, training courses and fingerprinting.

• Experience working with children strongly preferred.
