Accounting Technician Position located in Yuba City, long term position

Under general direction the incumbent will perform complex, difficult, fiducial, and professional accounting work of technical nature. Operate computerized accounting systems involving a broad range of record keeping functions, and perform related work as assigned. This classification is distinguished from the Senior Account Clerk class in that the duties assigned to this class require a broad range of knowledge and skill relating to the City’s general ledger accounting equipment and systems. Positions assigned to this class exercise considerable independent initiative in setting daily work priorities and solving difficult accounting problems. Incumbent may be responsible for giving lead directions to other clerical employees engaged in financial record keeping work.

A. Knowledge of:
  • Modern office practices, procedures, methods and equipment.
  • Computer systems and applications.
  • Principal, practices and terminology used in accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Filing and record retention, including electronic file storage systems.

    B. Skill at:
  • Understanding and interpreting the policies and procedures related to area of assignment
  • Developing and maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with established procedures.

    C. Ability to:
  • Analyze data and draw logical conclusions.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Work on several assignments at one time.
  • Performing complex accounting clerical research.
  • Learn municipal, state and county codes.
  • Use computer and needed programs effectively.
  • Perform 10-key by touch at a rate sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Establish and maintain respectful, effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Cross-train for competency in processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll when necessary to avoid interruptions to business.
