Full-time position is limited term for a collections move project that will begin in November 2017 and will last until May 2018. Under the supervision of Anthropology Collections Management, the individual in this position will help direct the project and will handle, house, organize, inventory, and catalog archaeological and ethnographic objects within the Anthropology Collections during their move from an older storage room to a newer storage room. Duties and Responsibilities * Prepares new CRC LL2 Anthropology Storeroom for storage of archaeological and ethnographic objects in advance of collection move from former PRL storeroom. Upgrades and maintains storage conditions for the Anthropology collections utilizing preventive conservation methods. Houses, organizes, inventories, catalogs, moves, and stores the Anthropology collections as appropriate. Consults with Collections Management and Conservation staff regarding safe handling and appropriate storage practices. * Monitors movement of objects at all stages and is responsible for keeping the inventory database up-to-date. Consults with Collections Managers and the Head Registrar regarding the database and the accuracy of its information including working with staff to solve cataloging problems in order to improve the veracity of data in the collections records and database. * Helps direct other collections assistants on this project. May supervise volunteers, interns, and visitors using the Anthropology Collections, as required. * Performs other collections-related activities as assigned. Qualifications * Bachelor s or graduate degree in Anthropology and/or Museum Studies. Object handling experience required. Computer skills required. * At least one-year museum collections experience required. Prior collections move experience preferred. Demonstrated superb organizational skills, impeccable attention to detail, ability to focus on tasks, ability to communicate effectively, negotiation and resolution of non-routine problems, professionalism and collegiality, and willingness to follow directions and procedures. An in-depth knowledge of accepted museum collections care practices and procedures expected. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and collections management databases. Working knowledge of KE EMu highly desirable. * High frequency of strenuous activity lifting heavy objects, moving carts, using box cutters and hot melt glue guns to construct artifact storage trays, etc. Ability to work alone or in a team situation required. Must be able to work with artifacts and records for long hours.
