Job Purpose / Key Performance Outputs:

Sets up single or multiple-spindle Bar Machines (lathes) to produce an acceptable First Article/Product Inspected (ready for production). Produces machined product from multiple machines in accordance with required quality, safety, customer specifications and production schedules.

Essential Functions Performed: (functions required to achieve the job s purpose)


Sets Up single or multiple-spindle horizontal Bar Machines.

Operates Bar Machines producing product to print.


Performs machine start-up activities as required/specified.


Performs machine maintenance checks as required/specified.


Installs engineered tooling and/or non-engineered tooling during set up.


Perform a series of machining operations according to specifications, set-up cards, standard charts, knowledge of turning procedures and standard work documents.


Performs inspections, using approved measuring instruments, to assess a product s conformance to specifications.


Replaces worn tools, bolts and nuts as needed.


Retrieve and enter job/part number, labor data for both set up & production in the computer.


Complies with all Company Safety requirements, performs 5S and Safety checks.


Apply Lean Manufacture/Continuous Improvement methods/tools to make improvements.


Assist Training new or other operators for cross-training purposes.


Apply Lean Manufacturing/ Continuous Improvement methods and tools to make work process improvements in quality, cost, delivery, safety, and productivity.

Knowledge of Set Up procedures and adjustments for both engineered & non-engineered tooling.

Knowledge of machine operation (including controls, speeds and feeds), and department safety requirements for machinery, materials and personal protection.

Ability to read blueprints shop orders, quality specifications and other work order information.

Ability to perform quality measurements, using gages, micrometers, and other QC tools.

Basic shop math (including add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions and decimals).

Advanced mechanical aptitude.

Knowledge of Company Quality ISO procedures, and Lean Standard Work for machine operators.

PC skills for basic data access and entry.

Personal planning and organization skills for meeting daily production needs.

Knowledge of startup procedures, operator preventative maintenance, and product conformance trouble-shooting.

Teamwork skills (including verbal communications, information sharing, cooperation and conflict resolution)

Minimum Education Level, Type, Certification, etc. :

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

Technical school graduate

Minimum Experience Types of experience and the number of years:

Three years of machining experience operating multi-spindle, screw machines or other automatic or manual lathes.

Preferred:

5 or more years of machining experience operating multi-spindle, screw machines such as Hydromat, Warner & Swasey, Schutte, Tornos, Acme, Conomatic, Davenport, and others.

Manufacturing / shop environment with large power equipment cutting metal.

Medium to heavy exposure to various machining fluids.

Lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 or more pounds.

Hours of work may be either day light hours or nights.

Working with and around sharp metal chips.

May operate various power hand tools like drills, grinders, etc.

Many hours standing/walking (10 hours) involved.

Exposure to machine oil and fluids.
