The primary focus of this role will be to facilitate Snapology classes on weekday afternoons and/or weekends during the day. We currently offer programs at partnering schools within the city of Chicago's near north and near west neighborhoods (Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Roscoe Village, Buena Park, Goose Island, West Town, West Loop, Noble Square, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Humboldt Park, North Center, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square). Instructors also have the opportunity to facilitate workshops, camps, custom programs, birthday and themed parties at schools, libraries, community or recreation centers, party rooms, and other locations throughout the city of Chicago. You will empower children to use creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) concepts aligned with Common Core standards. Programs are offered for children in preschool through middle school (Preschool through Grade 8, ages 2-14) and instructors may choose to work with any or all age groups within your interest and comfort level. This role requires independent thinking and autonomy/leadership skills, ongoing collaboration and communication with Snapology management, and representing the Snapology organization to parents, children, and community partners with a high degree of professionalism. Role & Responsibilities: - Lead groups of 8 to 24 children through curriculum-guided play activities using LEGO bricks and other interactive mediums - Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment - Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures - Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology - Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and adjust teaching strategies accordingly - Adequately prepare for each program by reading curriculum, watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions - Respond to questions from parents regarding Snapology programs - Encourage students and parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs - Participate in periodic Snapology training and staff meetings Qualifications: - 2 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment - Education, child development, or related degree and some teaching experience recommended; students pursuing a degree in STEM or related fields are also encouraged to apply - Practical knowledge of effective classroom management strategies for early childhood, elementary, and/or middle school students - Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with others - Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing - Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis - State of Illinois and FBI criminal and child clearances must be current (within the past 12 months) - may be obtained upon hire - Must have a vehicle to be able to transport a wagon load of class materials to program locations - Must be responsible to safely store class materials in your possession for a 6- to 10-week duration Hours Per Week / Days / Times: This position is part-time. Instructors/Facilitators may work varied schedules between 4-20 hours per week, depending on candidate availability and fluctuating demand for programs at schools and partnering locations. Snapology offers flexible scheduling and you need only to be available to work two or more weekdays, Monday through Thursday, and have a schedule that allows you to be at a program site between 2:30 and 5:30 pm; additional hours may be worked for those who are available to help facilitate \"parents night out\" events on occasional Friday evenings, or to work Saturday or Sunday during the day to facilitate parties or workshops, typically between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
