This role requires individuals who are caring, compassionate, honest, patient, and reliable. The Respite Caregiver must be energetic and engaging to maintain the attention and interest of the client or the person he/she is caring for. Respite services may be provided in home or outside of the home and may included but not limited to the following: * Assist family members in maintaining the client at home. * Provide appropriate care and supervision to protect the client s health, safety and welfare in the absence of family members. * Relieve family members from the constant, demanding responsibilities of caring for a client. * Attend to the client s basic self-help needs and other activities of daily living (ADLs) including assistance with the use of adaptive devices, dressing, toileting, medication reminders, and lifting when necessary. * Attend to the client's instrumental activities of daily living (IADL's) including interaction, socialization, meal preparation, family communications, light housekeeping, and continuation of daily routines which would otherwise be provided by family members. Scope of Position * Reports to Homewatch CareGivers Director of Client Relationships. * Provides in-home respite care services for developmentally-disabled individuals. * Does not administer medication or perform any procedures requiring the knowledge or skills of a licensed medical professional. Job Requirements * Must be at least 19 years of age and a high school graduate. * Minimum two-year experience providing care for developmentally-disabled individuals. * Must have a valid California Driver's License. * Ability to drive clients in one's own car is preferred. * CNA and/or CHHA, preferred but not required. * ABA certification or training is helpful. * CPR and First Aid training and certification required. * Must be registered as Home Care Aide with the State of California. * Proficiency in the English language--reading, speaking, and writing. * Fluency in another language desirable, e.g. Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, etc. * Ability to function with minimal supervision and to maintain a professional relationship with the client and client's family. * Must be able to pass all background checks, drug testing, and health screenings per regulatory requirements and company standards. * Must accept responsibility for maintaining skills and learning on an ongoing basis, as well as adhering to agency policies.
