PURPOSE
The primary objective of this role is to provide critical business intelligence for decision making purposes. The Senior Analyst, Market Analysis and Reporting - PL Focus role utilizes best practice frameworks, processes, and ad-hoc analysis to synthesize data and provide clear conclusions and recommendations. The role requires the ability to understand complex business problems and develop data driven solutions with advanced tools such as Access, SQl, Tableau, Qlikview, etc. The Senior Analyst ensures effective sales reports are published regularly and analyzes the same to identify trends, opportunities and risks in pricing and volume. The Senior Analyst will support the annual budget and forecast processes as well as make recommendations to increase accuracy, speed and effectiveness of processes. The Senior Analyst is able to effectively estimate product demand in certain markets and micro/sub-markets, estimate market growth and identify trends based on key indicators/drivers. He/she maintains market intelligence (competitor, customer, LafargeHolcim/internal) and implements effective processes to keep them current and accurate.
The Senior Analyst reports to the Manager, Market Analysis and Reporting and works closely with senior level stakeholders including the PL General Managers, PL Commercial Teams, Finance and Customer Service & Logistics Department. As such, the Senior Analyst is able to establish and communicate a reporting calendar which effectively prioritizes their workload while driving deadlines in a consistent manner. The Senior Analyst will collaborate and support other Analysts and demonstrate leadership by sharing of ideas, reinforcement of best practices and mentoring of Junior Analysts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
Data Modeling: Responsible for creating effective data driven solutions to assist management in understanding the business and for accurate decision making
Systems: Effectively utilizes internal best practice systems (ie. Qlikview, SAP) and actively engages in opportunities to improve its effectiveness across North America. This includes participation in development and rollout of new reporting systems.
Internal Analysis: Responsible for accurate, on-time and effective sales, logistics, and growth and innovation reports for regular distribution. Assists in analysis of sales & marketing and/or operational opportunities to improve results as well as perform detailed analysis of actual financial results to determine root causes of variances from budget and forecasts
Market Size & Growth: Estimates total product and services consumed in defined market(s). Effectively utilizes internal and association reports to estimate market growth and trends affecting growth. Tracks key market indicators monthly and reports to stakeholders
Competitors: Works closely with Commercial Teams to maintain a current database of competitor information and an assessment of competitor strengths and weaknesses
Routinely does competitive benchmarking
Customers: Works with the Customer Excellence team to support initiatives
Construction Activity: Supports the Segments and Segment Analyst to be the voice of the field in tracking and coordinating construction activity for the PL
Management Cycle & Strategy Formulation: Works closely with the team to incorporate the above activities into standard processes/deliverables as part of our ongoing management cycle and strategy review processes. This includes the SMART process, Marketing Plans, Strategic Framework, Systematic Pricing, Performance Plans, Budgets and Forecasts.
Growth: Assists in analysis of growth opportunities in new and existing markets. Analysis includes estimation of market attractiveness (ie. market size & growth, market indicators, market shares, and assessment of barriers to entry) and relative player position (ie. production & logistics costs, quantity and quality of reserves).
Maintains current detailed database of annual market size and composition (ie. detailed competitor volumes, fixed plant volumes and supply).
Maintains current detailed database of market indicators and sales results.
Support the completion of the Marketing Plans, Strategic Frameworks, and Systematic Pricing analysis.
Ad-hoc analysis of sales & marketing risks and opportunities.
Participation in growth opportunities and associate market analysis.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS
Reports to Manager, Market Analysis & Reporting
Works closely with senior level stakeholders including the PL General Managers, Finance, Commercial Teams, Customer Service & Logistics Department, and Growth and Innovation
Works closely with the entire Business Intelligence team to ensure best practice compliance and sharing ideas
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree
Additional Education Preferred: Master's/Graduate Degree
Required Work Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience is required
Required Computer and Software Skills: Strong computer skills (ie. excel, access, power-point, mapping software)
