NATURE AND SCOPE:

Leads the maintenance function responsible for maintaining and improving the safety and production capability of the paper mill with minimum downtime and within budget. Manages the planning and implementation of all maintenance activity. Builds teamwork across organizational boundaries. Assesses and provides for employee development needs.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for the mill
  • Provide effective direction to Maintenance Planner, Team Leader, and Maintenance Technicians to support shutdown planning, development of planned maintenance and SOPs, and daily maintenance activities
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering groups in support of mill operations and projects
  • Ensure all maintenance activities align with primary goals of Safety/Housekeeping, Quality, Cost, Production
  • Lead maintenance department across all shifts, ensuring decisions are based on the priorities of Mill need, Team need, and Individual need
  • Ensure adherence to all OSHA requirements and other regulatory standards, company policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements
  • Assess opportunities to improve production capability and reduce risk of equipment failure
  • Draft maintenance budget, including equipment, parts, consumables, and contract labor for approval
  • Partner with purchasing function to identify appropriate vendors for maintenance equipment and supplies
  • Develop solid teamwork with operations leadership and technicians
  • Monitor work orders and daily maintenance technician logs
  • Partner with Human Resources and General Manager to respond appropriately to coaching needs and disciplinary issues
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor s degree and minimum ten years progressively responsible experience in paper mill, or equivalent experience. Engineering degree and paper mill start-up managerial experience highly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
