We are hiring an experienced Bag Machine Operator for our Bag Making department. Job Summary: The Bag Machine Operator performs all tasks in make-ready, preventative maintenance, and production run assignments. He/she is responsible for equipment set ups and ensuring that quality is to the highest standards, press waste is efficiently controlled and managed, production schedules are met as required, and safety procedures are enforced. This is an hourly (non-exempt) position. Responsibilities and Duties: * Operate assigned equipment in accordance with the manufacturer s specifications and guidelines. * Performs all tasks according to the production schedule, and ensure work conducted in the production area is performed in a safe and efficient manner. * Performs bag size change overs for SOS and pinch bottom bag machines. * Examines job instructions to determine details such as quantities to be printed, stock specifications, colors, color sequence, packaging, and production times. * Selects and installs all plates, dies, cylinders, and necessary tooling in machines according to job specifications. * Pour ink and other materials into reservoirs of printing units, making measurements and adjustments to control color and viscosity. * Ensure adherence to all quality control processes to produce the best quality work according to customers specifications. * Maintain daily time and materials usage reporting by entering information into computer system. * Keep presses and other equipment clean, lubricated, and organized. Ensure work area, including floors are clean and safe from oil. * Organize all tools and supplies, and know how to retrieve quickly when needed. * Conduct daily checks of Press Operators Lean Tool Board for missing or misplaced tools; record missing tools in the Press Operator Missing Tool Report. Review the report with Pressroom Supervisor or Director of Operations weekly for reordering. * Keep inks functional, taking care with spillage, storage, labeling, and lock up when not in use. * Ensure press is never running unattended. Get supervisor to cover as needed before leaving area. * Work with supervisors and management to foster a culture of team-building with focus on continuous improvement for all areas of manufacturing, materials management, and distribution. * Work closely with co-workers including helpers, supervisors, and other department personnel, keeping all apprised of issues. Requirements: * 3-5 years experience operating SOS and Pinch Bottom Bag Machines (preferably H.G. Weber and Beasley machines). * Experience on H.G. Weber 5 and Beasley French bag machines highly desired * Demonstrated knowledge of flexographic printing and bag making procedures, materials, equipment, and safety requirements and skills to perform assignments. * Prior team lead or supervisory experience a plus. * Skills in routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment. * Ability to identify and distinguish colors. May be asked to pass color vision and hue tests. * Verbal and written communication skills to adequately work with co-workers and other department, e.g., customer service, art department, shipping, etc. * Ability to speak English coherently to co-workers and management. * Working knowledge of manufacturing computer systems, shop floor data collection systems, handling and managing plates and plate files. * Ability to read, understand, and interpret job instructions; read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of necessary tools, equipment and methods. * Ability to perform arithmetic operations; use of rulers, fractions, and decimals in standard applications. * Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. * Must be able to work any shift, weekends and overtime as needed. * Bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking a plus. Education: High School diploma or GED required; post high school technical training desired. Physical Demands: Job requires ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently; ability to stand 100% of time.
