DUTIES * Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using computer or price list. * Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped. * Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy. * Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter. * Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials. * Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes. * Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock. * Compare shipment contents to records * Convey cargo by hand truck * Examine products or work to verify conformance to specifications * Load, unload, or stack containers, materials, or products * Maintain records, reports, or files * Measure, weigh, or count products or materials * Manage inventories or supplies * Monitor materials or supplies * Requisition stock, materials, supplies or equipment QUALIFICATIONS * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS * Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. * Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
