Key Functions

With minimal supervision from technical management, designs, implements and maintains CHI local and wide-area network environments and related services. Participates in enterprise projects as a technical lead and network operations driven projects as a project lead.

Responsibilities

  • Performs as the lead engineer in the design, deployment, and implementation of network, security and remote access components.

  • Some of this staff will be assigned responsibility for developing data network architectures and standards and integrating them in the enterprise architecture

  • Provides second and third level support for CHI local and wide-area network issues.

  • Performs network operations (proactive and reactive) through use of software/hardware diagnostic tools, problem diagnosing and network recovery process.

  • Develops, creates, and maintains current management databases, network device configurations, circuit information and operations network diagrams for network infrastructure including the development of database requirements, and establishment of data file backups.

  • Provides statistics of network performance

  • Ensures that all CHI network documentation remains current and relevant.

  • Develops monitoring procedures to ensure proper network operations.

  • Creates and assist in ensuring adherence to CHI network and security installation standards.

  • Assists in managing vendor support and services.

  • Update skills as necessary to support the CHI network and remain knowledgeable of industry standards and advancements.

  • Will require some on-call coverage responsibilities

Qualification:

Skills, Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical field required.

  • Network and/or security certifications strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years experience supporting both LAN and WAN environments in a multi-site network required.

  • 7+ years of total IT/network experience required.

  • May substitute an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience installing and maintaining Cisco routers and switches.

  • Knowledge of Ethernet, VLANs and Spanning Tree.

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, OSPF and other routing and routed protocols.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network connectivity issues, especially layers one, two and three.

  • Familiarity with protocol analysis and network monitoring.

  • Experience installing and maintaining firewalls, intrusion detection and other network security components and software

  • Familiarity with Windows, UNIX and other operating systems as well as desktop and server hardware

  • Knowledge of computer room environmental systems (air, power, fire suppression, uninterruptible power systems)

  • Project leadership skills including work plan development and management, and accomplishing projects within budget

Interactions, hand-offs

  • Coordinates service with vendor support as required.

  • Coordinates activities and communication with Help Desk

  • Some Data Network III staff will be leads in defining network architectures, components, and standards across a virtual One IT network team

  • Some of these architects will also be part of an enterprise architecture team that ensures integration of all technical platforms and evaluates new technologies for future use within CHI
