Fitter (Houston)

The Fitter is responsible for the lay out, fit, and fabrication of metal components to assemble structural forms using angle iron, I-beams, and plate steel. The Fitter will utilize hand tools and welding equipment while following shop details specifications. Whirlwinds goal is to provide fabricated structures for families, congregations and businesses, in the most efficient manner while maintaining a safe work environment. The role of the Fitter is crucial to the overall manufacturing process of our products. Responsibilities * Operate overhead crane. * Use clamps, jigs, tape, square, arc air gouger, cutting torch and plasma as required using judgment to prevent warping and misalignment of component parts. * Add stiffeners, brackets, face plates, etc. using prints for location prior to finish welding. * Interpret weld symbols and follow weld procedures. * Perform various fit up and tacking operations on a variety of structural assemblies. Qualifications * Must currently possess AWS Certification or have welding experience to be able to pass AWS Certification testing. * Proficient in mathematical skills. * Previous experience reading and working off of detail prints. * Ability to accurately read and interpret shop detail drawings * Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
