Responsibilities:

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Nutrition Services assists in the planning, coordination and administration of the Nutrition Services Department.  Supervises the daily activities of the Nutrition Services staff, acts as a liaison between the medical and clinical staff with regard to dietary concerns and advises the Director of Nutrition Services on dietary matters.

Duties
  • Assists in the planning, coordination and supervision of the Nutrition Services department including responsibilities for procurement, receiving, storage, preparation and menu planning
  • Interviews, selects, orients, assigns, schedules, supervise and evaluates Nutrition Services personnel
  • Supervises assigned nutrition service personnel for the purpose of maximizing the productivity of the work force, providing adequate coverage and ensuring adherence to health, safety and nutritional standards of food service operations
  • Inspects and ensures for proper safety, sanitation and hygiene practices among departmental personnel
  • Coordinates and conducts production schedule and safety meetings, in-service and workshops for the purpose of disseminating information related to the food services operation
  • Inspects kitchen and cafeteria areas daily to maintain required levels of cleanliness and regulatory standards
  • Monitors the receipt, preparation, presentation and serving of food and beverages for the purpose of ensuring safety and budgetary parameters are met and meal are presented in an appealing manner
  • Maintains inventories, records, statistics, logs and other management information systems
  • Assists in formulation and enforcing department standards, policies and procedures
  • Assists in the delivery and integration of dietary services and policies with other hospital and clinic departments
  • Assists in data gathering, analysis and forecasting necessary for preparation of the annual budget and operational studies
  • Assists in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement systems
  • Participates in departmental and hospital-wide education programs 
  • Upholds and implements the goals of the hospital and works toward meeting current inspection agencies requirements
  • Performs functions of other nutritional services positions, as needed for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage and the efficient and effective functioning of the department
  • Participates in professional association meetings, workshops and conferences for the purpose of gathering information that can enhance department practices and personal performance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
