The AVP, Diversity and Inclusion will develop and execute a global diversity and inclusion strategy that demonstrates this commitment. As the global diversity and inclusion strategy is designed and implemented the goal is to ensure relevancy to external factors, e.g., workforce demographics shifts, increased competition for exceptional talent, etc., while honoring the cultural factors which makes TJX strong. For this reason the AVP, Diversity and Inclusion is a part of the TJX Organizational Development (OD) department and will apply their experience in diversity and inclusion through an OD framework which includes a focus on organizational consulting, planning, solution development and effective change execution.

The AVP, Diversity and Inclusion will partner with division leadership – both business leaders and HR leadership – to develop a global diversity and inclusion strategy that is executed at the divisional level by leaders, managers and Associates.

The global diversity and inclusion strategy built by the AVP, Diversity and Inclusion will present a roadmap to equip leaders, managers and Associates with tools and personal support necessary to create an inclusive workplace culture. The essential elements of the roadmap will include programs and initiatives designed to ensure:
  • Leadership and organizational awareness of diversity and inclusion
  • Diversity and inclusion learning for managers and Associates
  • A focus on diverse talent management
  • TJX’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the community
  • Measurement and reporting
  • The scope for this position also includes business unit consultation and solution delivery. The AVP, Diversity and Inclusion has one direct report.
  • Leadership and Organizational Awareness:The divisions of TJX – TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra Trading Post, TJX Europe, TJX Canada, and TJX Australia - are all unique and will require an approach to diversity and inclusion that is consistent with their brand. This element of the roadmap will reflect how a global approach is executed at a divisional level.
Diversity and Inclusion learning for managers and Associates

TJX has a strong learning curriculum that can be expanded to support the mission of diversity and inclusion. While there are learning programs for diversity and inclusion within some divisions, achieving the overall mission would benefit from a more comprehensive approach. Themes such as cultural awareness, unconscious bias, micro-inequities and manager accountability will need to be included in the learning curriculum.

A focus on diverse talent management

Effective talent management is an essential responsibility of all TJX managers. The diversity and inclusion strategy will provide tools and practices that broaden this element to include a focus on diversity and inclusion and talent management. Additionally, the diversity and inclusion roadmap will reinforce the role of Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) as a critical component of talent development and advancement for [diverse] talent.

TJXs commitment to diversity and inclusion in the community

The roadmap will reveal the external organizations that provide a pipeline to diverse talent for TJX, increase TJX manager and Associate cultural acumen, and provide development experiences for TJX diverse talent.

Measurement and Reporting

This element of the roadmap is essential to ensuring the overall mission is realized. Specific focus will be on establishment of metrics, documentation of TJX divisional specific best practices, reporting of TJX diversity and inclusion successes, and a repository of TJX diversity and inclusion policies and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works at the strategic level across TJX.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with HR and division leadership teams, and other internal clients to identify and intervene on change management, organizational planning and solutions that foster organization learning and meet Division and TJX strategic goals and needs related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Proactively addresses and responds to diversity and inclusion issues by bringing key stakeholders together to assess root causes and performance gaps, implementing and or supporting strategic planning, tactical and project planning, facilitation, instruction, program design, materials development and performance analysis.
  • Gives advice and develops diversity and inclusion interventions about impacts resulting from whole organization changes.
  • Provides project management for diversity and inclusion organization-wide projects/ initiatives as required, facilitating team efforts and helping to define project goals, timelines, resource requirements and planning to cope with conflict or stressor points in the plans.
  • Provides organization-wide assessments about organization health and effectiveness so that diversity and inclusion projects can be prioritized and brought to successful completion.
  • Assesses risks associated with various diversity and inclusion initiatives/ projects and suggests and implements actions to manage any negative impacts.
  • Supports the work of external diversity and inclusion consultants brought in to do various diversity and inclusion projects by various groups in the Divisions by providing them with information about the Division, helping with implementation of their projects, and ensuring that assessment of the diversity and inclusion intervention is conducted.
  • Focuses on improving group and department functioning. Facilitates planning and interaction to improve group and department productivity, decision-making and performance in a team based cultural environment.
  • Identifies and uses OD/ diversity and inclusion instruments and surveys to analyze individual and group behavior and recommends strategies for making needed changes.
  • Influences and supports changes in organizational behavior. Serves as an internal consultant to facilitate team building, resolving work group conflict, changes in group norms values and culture.
  • Coaches HR and line managers to expand their leadership and diversity and inclusion competencies.
  • Facilitates diversity and inclusion planning processes for departments, Functions and Divisions as requested.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of Master’s Degree in Organization Development, Business Administration or other relevant behavioral science.
  • Minimum 8 - 10 years professional level experience in Organization Development in a company the size of The TJX Companies, Inc. or larger.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading diversity and inclusion programs.
  • Comfort in working with Executive leadership.
  • Experience in group processes, conflict resolution and team building.
  • Experience in diversity and inclusion program design and instructional experience in the areas of leadership, communication and quality improvement.
  • Excellent leadership and influence skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion theory and practice.
  • OD theories, philosophies and methods, organizational analysis and change skills. Organizational behavior development working knowledge.
  • Employee involvement and recognition programs working knowledge.
  • Training and development needs analysis, program development and delivery.
  • Ability to teach and give feedback.
  • Ability to coach HR and managers.
  • Advance level strategic project and work planning, non-authority leadership, interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving, decision-making, employee development and team building skills.
  • Strong personal impact; high stress and ambiguity tolerance, analytical, market/selling, counseling and coaching, respectful confrontation; behavior modeling, overcoming resistance and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence within a collaborative network.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future trends/ consequences and create innovative strategies and flexible plans.
