A Successful Lead Program Manager Will Have The Following Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management and/or 7+ years of IT Program Management experience and/or equivalent experience is required. PMP, CSM, CAPM certifications are a plus.
  • Experience directly managing a team of individuals, including mentoring, guiding and coaching, and the ability to provide regular constructive feedback is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively (both in writing and verbally), and roll-up trending data is required. The ability to interact effectively with not only software development and test teams, business, management and infrastructure teams, but also with upper level management is required.
  • Experience running large / enterprise level projects, coordinating across many teams, resolving cross-organizational issues, and vendor management or consulting experience is required.
  • Experience facilitating technical and/or business meetings, and working resourcefully and positively with others to brainstorm and implement solutions is highly valued. Experience working in IT, having a working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies, and Project / Release Management and typical lifecycles is necessary.
  • Strong competency not only using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Rally, Service Now, HP ALM and Sharepoint, but also in developing clear, accurate and visually pleasing reports across enterprise-level efforts for upper management consumption is required.

A Lead Program Manager is in a leadership role in the PMO, and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, tracking and reporting of large / enterprise IT Projects concurrently, while leading a small team of program managers. They work with IT management, vendors and project teams to establish the deliverables and work efforts, scheduling, and manage change. Works effectively through conflict with the teams. They need to be self-motivated, curious, independent, experienced and driven.

Primary Responsibilities Fall Into The Following Categories:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of projects to completion.
  • Communicate effectively across teams.
  • Assist with communication around project scope, goals, deliverables and timelines.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and hold necessary weekly/daily or ad hoc meetings, taking and distributing key meeting notes to stakeholders to ensure clear understanding and direction.
  • Facilitate solutions with data, development and test teams, ensuring that teams are clear on implementation details. Acquire assistance from analysts and architects as needed.
  • Provide status tracking and risk mitigation for each project. Consistently monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders; present reports defining project progress, status, challenges and solutions.
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs; project evaluations and assessment of results throughout and post project deployment .
