A successful Staff Accountant of General Ledger will have the following: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; and/or 1 to 2 years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years Accounting experience including month end / year end close and Financial Statement preparation
  • Thorough understanding of key accounting concepts and GAAP, especially ASC-606
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Hyperion Financial Reporting and Oracle Financial Systems
  • Ability to assess and recommend improvements for processes and procedures; willingness to learn new concepts and work with teammates to find solutions          

This Staff Accountant position is part of the General Ledger Group within the Dish Accounting Department. Among other things, this group records and analyzes the various revenue streams of Dish including TV and internet programming subscriptions, internet and phone services, equipment sales and advertising.  It is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting. This role will work with various Accounting department teams in order to convert to the new standard and maintain the accounting on a go-forward basis.

 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Researching and developing the accounting treatment for the new Revenue Recognition Standard ASC-606
  • Engaging with and guiding several departments at Dish including IT, Data Warehouse, Finance, Billing and Credit, and Business Process and Technology to guide the set-up of new systems to comply with the new Standard
  • Performing monthly close duties to include preparing journal entries, variance reporting, reconciliations, and account analysis
  • Creating/improving operational and accounting internal controls and developing efficiency improvements
  • Documenting processes and procedures to support external and internal SOX, financial and operational audits
