About this job

We're an online retail, brand services, and product development company looking for a Business Development Specialist to help us expand the portfolio of consumer brands we partner with and sell. You'll help us not only grow in verticals we already operate in (pets, health and personal care, sports nutrition, and natural grocery), but also help us expand into new categories.

A typical "day in the life of" will be spent reviewing in-house analysis on new opportunities, analyzing the needs of new prospective partners, and reaching out and cultivating new, mutually beneficial relationships. You'll also strengthen existing relationships by continuously finding ways to add value.

If you're looking for a position that will challenge you to continuously learn new things, meet and develop meaningful relationships with new people, and allow for you to play a vital role in a company's growth, look no further.

We started our business in market research and data services to online retailers over 6 years ago, and added our own eCommerce division several years later. That business has continued to grow as we've expanded into new categories, and moved into new online marketplaces. In 2016, we began developing and launching our own brands and products.

A little about the company:

We're a dynamic group of talented people who value our employees, and understand your key importance to our growth success. We're looking for smart, responsible, hard-working people looking to develop their skills.

We're a pretty diverse cast of characters - we have people into backpacking, photography, guitar-playing, hip-hop, anime, sci-fi, and more!

We work hard, but have fun, too! We drink good whiskey and beer on Fridays after work, have a monthly company game night, and more.

There is opportunity for growth and advancement over time.

Job Responsibilities:

You'll be working directly with the CEO and CTO. More specifically, you'll:

  • Analyze marketplace data for new opportunities - You'll be continuously reviewing internal and other data to identify new potential retail partners, product opportunities, and more.
  • Research potential partners - Assess current marketplace performance and representation of potential partners, and understand their needs. Prepare overview assessments and reports.
  • Reach out to potential partners - Build strong, collaborative, friendly relations via phone and email. Based on a thorough understanding of partner needs and TESMO capabilities, take a consultative approach to selling potential partners on the benefits of working with TESMO. Focus on mutual benefit, and developing concrete action plans.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and pricing - do your research, work hard to ensure that TESMO receives favorable terms, but that the relationship remains mutually beneficial. Work with the buying team to place the initial order.
  • Maintain regular contact with key suppliers - continue to search for ways to add value and deepen relationships with our key partners. Produce monthly buying and sales reports so you have detailed knowledge of what's happening with each TESMO partner.
  • Develop and maintain a partner database
  • Be awesome - be an excellent team player, work closely and well with other TESMO team members (while having fun), maintain professional, intelligent communication with partners at all times.

Ideal Candidate:

  • B.A/ B.S required.
  • Strong Excel skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills required. You're a listener first, build rapport with others quickly, and speak well and thoughtfully. You have strong business writing skills.
  • Ability to write cold emails, and make cold calls that get a favorable response.
  • Two or more years of experience in B2B sales, account management, marketing, brand management, or eCommerce strongly preferred.
  • Strong self-management skills. Everyone who works here works hard, and doesn't need to be micro-managed.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects.
  • A positive attitude and legitimate sense of humor.
  • A genuine commitment to other people, and to the success of the organization.
