GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Sports Medicine and Fitness and with moderate supervision, the Athletic Trainer works to provide assigned community and high school events with athletic training and sports medicine services. Works closely with the Director of Sports Medicine and Fitness, physicians, physical and occupational therapists, and the Director of Public Relations. Has frequent contact with Athletic Directors at local schools, youth league coaches and coordinators, summer camp directors, student athletes, parents, coaching staff and physicians. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Utilizes the following domains as outlined by the NATA: a. Prevention of athletic injuries. Recognition, evaluation, and emergent care of athletic injuries. Rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries. d. Healthcare administration's. Professional development and responsibility. 2. May provide educational programs related to the field of athletic training to the community. Assists and runs clinical sports medicine programs with the Director of Sports Medicine and Fitness and physicians. 3. Uses mechanical apparatus utilized in training and rehabilitation of athletes or orthopedic patients. Maintains personal protective equipment, gloves, pocket respirator, and tape and materials for padding, splinting, or otherwise providing support to affected joints. May use electrical and thermal modalities in athletic training setting. 4. Must be able to work with students, athletes, and coaches. Remains calm and in control in emergency situations. Exhibits flexibility in adhering to seasonal athletic schedule changes.
Qualifications:
OTHER JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: Certification by NATA BOC and licensure by Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professionals. Current CPR certification for the healthcare provider. Valid Massachusetts driver's license. Graduate of NATA BOC approved athletic training curriculum program. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Carrying supplies of 50-100 pounds, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, walking, driving, transferring and guarding patients/athletes, running, squatting, etc. 2.
