Title: Fitness Associate
Reports to: Fitness Director
Supervises: None
Position Summary: The Fitness Associate will conduct safe and effective exercise sessions that are appropriate for various levels of care. The associate will support the Fitness Director by ensuring that the residents are attending Nautilus sessions and participating in physical activity. Fitness Associates will have the opportunity to lead classes and to help with special events.
Routine Functions of the Position:
Follows schedule of Nautilus sessions and Group Exercise Classes
Record resident progress, assist with therapy screens, fitness assessments and request for physician approval forms
Communicate effectively with therapy department
Supervise proper use of equipment and follow protocol for safe training technique
Demonstrate ability to adapt exercises to address individual needs/goals of residents
Demonstrate ability to monitor exercise intensity and recognize signs of exercise distress
Assist residents with transferring onto an off of exercise equipment
Ability to follow through with implementing special company programs to target balance, range of motion, strength and endurance
Promote all fitness programming and recruit residents for participation
Assist with health fairs, fitness promotions and active aging events
Support Country Meadows walking program
Assist with Co-worker wellness programs (such as weight management support sessions)
Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and exercise areas and monitor preventative maintenance
Attend work related training and meetings
Critical Success Factors:
Possess a positive philosophy and be genuinely enthusiastic regarding physical activity for the older adult
Good time management and organizational skills
Must be persuasive and capable of inspiring residents to participate in physical activity
Ability to direct exercise in both group or one to one settings
Knowledge of use of exercise equipment, modifications and proper technique for safety
Willingness to cooperate and work as part of a team
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and comprehend the same
Work Environment:
Workplace includes the Nautilus equipment and surrounding areas. Group classes may take place in a variety of locations throughout the campus. Access to office areas is provided for computer/copier and administrative related duties
Position requires standing, walking, twisting, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, stretching, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
Must be able to push/pull 100 pounds.
Requires raising cardio-vascular rate when there is a need to demonstrate the cardiovascular equipment and exercises
Requires normal range of hearing and vision, hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Must be capable of operating all nautilus and cardiovascular equipment
Minimum Qualifications:
Positive exercise philosophy
Experience in working with older adults or special populations regarding physical activity
Minimum high school graduate
Certifications desired:
oGroup Exercise or Personal Training for Older Adults
oCPR / Basic First Aid (required)
oArthritis Foundation Exercise Leader
oSilver Sneakers
oTai Chi, Aquatics, Yoga
