The competent RN has mastered basic technical and organizational nursing skills. He or she is skilled in evaluating patient responses and uses past experiences in providing care. Patients and families are viewed holistically, there is a focus on outcomes, and care is delivered using a systematic approach. The competent RN is able to make decisions guided by limited experience, as well as policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. He or she consults with other members of the healthcare team when necessary. At the competent level, the RN can comfortably care for patients in his or her clinical area. Posting Department Intermediate Care Unit MOSU Posting Department Description The Intermediate Care Unit/Multi Operational Specialty Unit (MOSU) is an eleven (11) bed self contained unit within the 42 bed Intensive Care unit. This unit will be a multispecialty fully integrated unit which will admit high level acuity, noncritically ill patients to provide these patients with a higher nurse patient ratio and competent specific care. Patients that may be admitted to this unit are monitored patients who are on minimally titrated critical drips, post cardiac and surgical intervention, post operative CABG, long term trached / ventilated patients, psychiatric patients and extensive wound management. This is not an all inclusive list. Patients may be hard wire monitored or telemetry monitored while in this unit. Insertion or monitoring of highly invasive equipment is not appropriate for this unit. This area is managed by the ICU Director and ICU Resource Coordinators with the utilization of a team leader in the Intermediate Care Unit.
