Materials Lab Technician

The Materials Lab Technician, under the direction of the Senior Materials Lab Technician or Materials Engineer, will provide technical support of materials. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting Production with materials and color issues, evaluating new materials and colors, improving current products through process/formulation/materials changes, evaluating competitive products to establish a benchmark, and to track incoming raw materials through testing and evaluation.

Basic material testing lab where the candidate will prepare samples by cutting the sample down to size, weigh out samples, water baths, doing tensile testing, using roll mills, extruders, different testing every day


-Plans, schedules and conducts material trials and activities in lab and supports plant trials

-Assists in development and optimization of processing conditions for new and modified formulations

-Writes short technical reports relating to research, development, and testing of materials and products

-Collects and reports data to the appropriate personnel

-Acts as a liaison to other departments and provides manufacturing support.

-Assists or performs raw material supplier assessments

-Assists in new, alternative, and current color development

-Assists in raw material development (i.e. lubricants, cellulose, process aids, resins, etc.)

-Conducts product testing, including flexural properties, O.D. weathering exposure studies, CTE, water immersion, etc.

-Contributes towards continuous improvement in Research and Development area

-Performs additional duties as needed and/or assigned by supervision/management
