Job Summary:

As a Team Lead you are responsible for a portion of the department's training, supervision and development. You will take ownership of the performance of a crew assigned to you. Your duty is to manage expectations and personal accountability regarding safety, customer service and operational excellence. You must maintain the highest degree of cooperation with your peers by collaborating and coordinating your staff daily. This role is designed for current employees seeking leadership advancement within Vail Resorts. It will include classroom sessions and Talent Development courses that focus on identifying your leadership traits and improving your management skills.

Due to the amount of precipitation we receive, being a lift operator at Kirkwood can be more physically demanding than other resorts. We work hard but we also shred hard. A day in the life of a Team Lead:

  • Schedule your staff to appropriate stations within your zone on the mountain.
  • Deliver safety briefs, convey resort updates and perform active warmups with a 40-50 operator staff.
  • Train and supervise proper opening procedure and maze set-up. Responsible for CPTSB, ANSI and Company “Best Practice” compliance at all lift stations within your designated zone.
  • Communicate effectively to dispatch and other mountain operations departments to ensure accurate opening times of the chair lifts.
  • Maintain your team’s level of professionalism and standard of excellence according to our guest service expectations.
  • Observe and improve the loading techniques of new employees to ensure the highest degree of safety for our guests.
  • Assist the department Leads with their task to provide duty-free breaks and lunches according to California law.
  • Train how to use a variety of tools to reshape snow surfaces to specification. Keep track of the department’s inventory and maintain the working condition of our equipment. Help the supervisor with ordering supplies.
  • Encourage a caring safety culture with your team to achieve the goal of zero work related injuries.
  • Monitor the time and labor of your teammates and make appropriate decisions to keep labor costs accurate to volume.
  • Correctly coach and discipline when needed. Work closely with the assistant administrator and the manager to complete all documentation according to HR expectations.
  • Make certain your lift terminals are shut down correctly and that all state documents are completed and filed.
  • Attend Leadership Terrain courses and department specific management sessions.

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Provide your own transportation to adhere to 6:00am snow safety start times.
  • Have advanced ski/snowboard ability.
  •  Be able to lift 50 lbs., climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, pull, grasp, feel, hear, see, repetitive motions. Must be able to adhere to an early morning starting time.
  • Be able to work up to 10 hours in all winter weather conditions at altitude (7800’ - 9800’).
  • Minimum one season of previous Lift Operations supervisory experience
  • Able to use MS Office Proficiently.
  • Comfortable with seeing/hearing/feeling explosions used for avalanche mitigation.

 

 

Schedule: Nov. - April. 48+hr/week. 7:00am-5:00pm 5 days a week. Start time changes during storm cycles to assist ski patrol with avalanche mitigation.
