Florida SouthWestern State College, a multi-campus community college, invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the School of Health Professions. The Dean serves as the administrative and academic head of the School and reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean of the School of Health Professions has the responsibility and authority for the administrative and instructional activities of all of the Health Professions programs. The Dean provides leadership in the planning, direction, and evaluation of all programs within the School including, but not limited to, Nursing, Health Information Management, Human Services, Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting. Primary Responsibilities: Oversees all Health Professions Programs in accordance with accepted national standards and administrative policies. Directs programs to meet national accreditation and state approval standards. Supervises the revision of existing programs to effectively utilize resources as they become available such as grants, new clinical affiliates and dedicated buildings. Works in collaboration with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Dean of the School of Business and Technology to research, build and implement new Health Professions programs. Provides an effective and efficient system for the delivery and evaluation of curriculum including new program development. Provides leadership and direction in the selection, hiring, supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff within the School of Health Professions. Monitors student evaluations of all faculty assigned to the Health Professions Programs. Coordinates and monitors the preparation and maintenance of all program budgets. Ensures program departments are processing contracts and personnel actions accurately and within established payroll guidelines and College operating procedures. Oversees the staff of the programs in both didactic clinical and support areas. Oversees the advisement and selection of applicants to the Health Professions Programs. Oversees the academic advisement and counseling of students enrolled in the Programs. Ensures that the program advisory committees meet on a scheduled basis and reports activities to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs regularly. Reviews all program accreditation activities with respective Program Directors and collaborates in the development of appropriate action plans as needed. Coordinates and participates in recruitment activities focused on Health Professions. Qualifications Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in nursing, or doctorate in another field with a master's degree in nursing, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Five years of full-time professional work experience in curriculum design, program administration, instruction, and/or student advisement in a nationally accredited health professions program is required. The selected candidate must be eligible for a registered nurse license with the Florida Board of Nursing by the time of appointment. The School of Health Professions The FSW School of Health Professions offers two baccalaureate degrees, one post-associate certificate, nine associate degrees, and five certificates that prepare students for workforce entry and advancement upon graduation and successful credentialing. Nursing, Paramedic, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programs are offered on all three campuses in Charlotte, Collier, and Lee counties. Bachelor of Science degrees - Cardiopulmonary Sciences and Nursing Associate of Science degrees - Cardiovascular Technology, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Technology, Fire Science Technology, Health Information Technology, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, and Social and Human Services Two AS programs are offered in partnership with other colleges: Opticianry with Hillsborough Community College and Physical Therapist Assistant with Broward College. Certificate programs - Addiction Services, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Fighter I/II, Medical Information Coder/Biller, and Paramedic An Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) in Computed Tomography (CT) also is offered. The Allen and Marla Weiss Health Sciences Hall (on cover) is a 42,000-square-foot classroom and lab building on the Collier County Campus. This building reflects the latest teaching technologies in nursing and applied sciences and is LEED certified. FSW has a state-of-the-art Simulation Education Center that has obtained global recognition. Students also receive valuable clinical experiences through community hospitals and affiliates. Faculty, staff, and students in the School of Health Professions are active in community and professional activities at the local, state, national, and international level. Graduates of the programs in the health professions are extremely successful on credentialing examinations and with finding employment after graduation. Graduates of the nationally accredited Dental Hygiene AS degree program have had a 100 percent pass rate on their national exam for 22 consecutive years and of the Radiologic Technology AS degree program have had a 100 percent pass rate on their national exam for 12 consecutive years. Florida SouthWestern State College Established in 1962 as Edison Junior College, Florida SouthWestern State College is a member of the Florida College System. Governed by a District Board of Trustees composed of nine representatives from Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades, and Lee counties, the college serves a five-county regional area of 5,448-square land miles through three campuses and a regional center. In the 2016-17 academic year, the college awarded 2,559 associate degrees, 313 bachelor's degree, and 282 certificates. More than 65 percent of the students attend college part-time and 72.3 percent of the enrollment is 24 years old or younger. The majority of the enrollment is female with 61.1 percent and minority populations comprise 51.7 percent of the student body. More than 21 percent of the students take online courses. The college also offers high school students the opportunity to learn and achieve in a collegiate atmosphere. It operates two high schools, one serving students in Charlotte County and the second in Lee County.
