Summary: Inspects and repairs established lawns; performs maintenance of ornamental landscapes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plants new and repairs established lawns using seed mixtures and fertilizers recommended for particular soil types.
  • Uses power-operated equipment to cultivate soils.
  • Performs maintenance of ornamental landscapes, including lawns, small trees, groundcovers, shrubs and annual/perennial color displays.
  • Locates and plants shrubs, trees and flowers selected or recommended for particular landscape effect.
  • Examines the health of plants; identifies pests and diseases; applies nutrients and maintains moisture levels.
  • Trims shrubs and cultivates gardens; cleans grounds using rakes, brooms and hoses.
  • Sprays trees and shrubs; applies supplemental liquid and dry nutrients to lawn and trees.
  • Performs weed abatement and other grounds-related functions as needed.
  • Operates motor vehicles to transport materials and equipment.
  • Operates grounds equipment.
  • Maintains records for all work or services performed, including rigid records for pesticide applications.
  • Follows standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects; follows all safety protocol.
  • Assists with completion and submittal of weekly tool, equipment and vehicle maintenance reports.
  • Deploys for emergency response due to inclement weather, i.e. snow and ice, tornado or other crisis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience in grounds management.
  • Ability to operate grounds-related equipment.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 25 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop for extended periods of time.


Working Conditions: Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers, pollen producing environment, paint and petroleum products. Work time expectation: 90% of time will be physical labor, 10% training and misc.
