Position Summary:
This position is dedicated to the purpose of computer room monitoring. The scope of this monitoring includes the physical rooms, the servers, the databases, and the applications and processes on the servers. This position provides support and escalation.
This position works closely with all MIS departments to assist in assuring accurate and timely processing of data. Failure to discover problems can result in late reports or inaccurate reporting. Many aspects of the position are bound by SOX, PCI and MA201 compliance.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1) Support for Operations
-Analyzes error messages, machine malfunctions, stops, schedule information to determine proper operating procedures.
- Informs systems and programming personnel of errors or problems with job runs.
- Application monitoring and process control, including the first level trouble shooting for all computer room server and database problems.
- Monitors and controls work flow through queues and console messages, as required or assigned, to ensure that completion deadlines and production standards are met. Monitors and schedules batch processing to maximize efficiency
- Incident Resolution.
- Prints, bursts and files production output for proper distribution.
- Reviews production printouts and reports to ensure quality standards are met.
- Operates supporting peripheral equipment as required.
- Assist users with minor computer programming problems or questions.
- Monitors machine room environmental conditions.
- Receives and unloads incoming stock and computer hardware.
1. Administration
- Comfortable with most aspects of OS administration including configuration of printer systems, security and 3rd party packages
- Familiar with fundamental networking concepts, configure NFS and NIS, Domains and DNS
- Write scripts in some administrative languages (Perl, Shell or Other)
2. Maintenance
- Familiar with routines for cleaning file systems, restarting servers/services and restoring systems/files due to corruption
- Performs routine maintenance on computer hardware equipment; performs appropriate environmental maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Maintains system logs, records and reports about computer operations.
- Assist and/or provide guidance for rollouts of hardware and software
3. Backup
- Monitoring and execution of tape backups and restores
- Able to escalate and troubleshoot failed backup and restore of servers

Scope and Impact:

Position requires that the individual understand the impact of servers and applications if they are unavailable.
Take independent action to troubleshoot issues and system problems to successful resolution.
Ability to communicate and work with technical and non-technical staff to resolve issues and share knowledge



Education and Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required, relevant technical school training, associate or bachelor degree optional.

Licenses/Certification/Registration:

Experience: 2+ years of operations and troubleshooting experience

Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer operations.
• Skill in following verbal and written instructions of a technical nature.
• Knowledge Unix/Linux, Netbackup, Nagios, Ciscoworks, Autosys desired. Attention to detail and good trouble shooting skills required. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed logs.

Physical Requirements:

Will be required to lift servers in the data center.
