Food manufacturer located near Woodbury, NY seeks a Purchasing Manager.
The Purchasing Manager will function as a liaison between suppliers and the company’s manufacturing
plants. He/she is responsible for sourcing ingredients/components/packaging materials and negotiating
contracts with suppliers.
Job Responsibilities:
· Source ingredients, components and packaging materials
· Manage forecasting and purchasing cycles
· Monitor and react to trends in material costs, including food prices, paperboard (corrugated), and
resins (packaging film)
· With an educated knowledge of material prices, negotiate the best prices.
· Obtain technical documentation associated with materials purchased; Work with QA to manage that
documentation
· Work with Production Planning and Inventory Control to order materials for production
· Interview vendors and visit suppliers to learn about new products and services
· Attend meetings and trade shows to stay current on materials and technology
· Work with QA to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective actions
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· Four (4)+ years of experience in purchasing/supply chain
· Experience working in the food industry is a plus
· Excellent communication skills
· Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Hours: Mon – Fri 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
