Purchasing Planner needed for a well-established machine shop/manufacturer located near Central Islip, NY.

The primary responsibility will be to manage the company material requirements through production planning and outside vendor purchasing with close interaction with the purchasing and inventory clerk. Ideal candidate will have a good technical understanding of purchased items needed for a traditional metal and plastic fabricator with the ability to read blueprints and BOM’s.

Requirements:

· 5 + years in senior purchasing/planning role in the metal working field

· Solid knowledge and familiarity with traditional planning and purchasing techniques

· Comfortable working under pressure to manage production schedules in order to meet required deadlines

· Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate/expedite with outside vendors as necessary

· Familiar with technical aspects of purchased items for traditional metal fabrication including materials, hardware, finishing methods etc.

· Ability to read blueprints and BOM’s to determine purchasing requirements

· Strong math, organizational and problem solving skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

· Bachelor’s degree required

Responsibilities:

· Manage all inventory planning schedules, working closely with Director of Manufacturing and Production Manager

· Analyze and improve inventory and warehouse procedures to provide the most efficient and practical planning method

· Maintain relationships with outside vendors including negotiated pricing and delivery schedules

· Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities

· Resolve quality issues with outside vendors

· Develop purchasing requirements for new or custom products by reading engineering blueprints or BOM’s

· Assist with future ERP implementation and transition from current manual system
