Job Summary

Under direction of the Benefits Manager, the Benefits Analyst will perform data analysis work, involving moderate responsibility, complexity and variety to coordinate and formulate resources to address any and all requests for informational and technical data based on the health and welfare plans sponsored by Spectrum Brands; ensuring accurate and timely response to same. Requires analytical and technical skills to solve problems, critically evaluate data, identify trends and recommend program changes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Analytical (80%)

  • Analyze leave management process and recommend appropriate actions and process improvements.
  • Analyze benefit plan RFPs and renewals and recommend vendors
  • Ensure the accuracy of data feeds to and from vendors.
  • Draft, review, update and expedite all Health Compliance processes such as Plan Documents, SPDs, 5500s, SARs, etc. Research new legislation and amend Plans to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Examine the employee health population of Spectrum Brands, identify opportunities for improvement and implement countermeasure to improve population health.
  • Approve and analyze day-to-day benefits administration and eligibility changes (in accordance with Company Plan guidelines). Examples include new hires, life event changes, terminations, FLMA absences, etc.
  • Create Plan Documents and Amendments in addition to policies and procedures.
  • Analyze group insurance budgets and financial monitoring of all health plans including the FSA data collection.
  • Provide technical and analytical support to the Benefits Manager and Plant Locations for all areas of the benefit delivery system.
  • Work with the Ceridian-Dayforce and Workday teams to develop auditing procedures and reports.
  • Review changes to regulations and other policy documents from ACA to assess impact to business operations, including processes and communications. Ensure that work processes and/or reports are modified as needed when ACA regulations change.
  • Evaluate and test scenarios and processes for upgrades and enhancements in HR/Pay; create scenario entry and testing and verification of results.

Support (15%)

  • Support Open Enrollment process including designing communication material, presenting benefit education programs to various levels of the organization (e. g., new employee orientation, Open Enrollment, Benefit Fairs). Develop and deliver communication plans to employees to improve the understanding of the 401(k) plan and financial well-being.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in administration of Health & Welfare plans including flexible spending and voluntary and life insurance plans.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on ACA regulations, updates and changes on the Federal Level.
  • Support the coordination of annual benefits enrollment and various benefit communication projects.
  • Provide back-up for the Benefits Specialist by providing service to customers who walk-in, call or email with enrollment and other benefits-related issues. Assist Benefits Manager with off-cycle integration and/or benefit related projects.
  • Ensure enrollment and deduction information are captured in the HR/Pay database.
  • Ensure appropriate information is shared electronically with the payroll system and that appropriate information is subsequently utilized by HR/Pay for new enrollment, changes to enrollment and termination of enrollment.
  • Process payroll adjustments as necessary.

Administrative (5%)

  • Run reports as requested.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and/or testing of various systems, HR/Pay, ACA and other systems and interfaces, for upgrade, reimplementation and/or business cycle phases that impact the Benefits section.
Education and Experience Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Finance, or Accounting, and;
  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on benefit compliance experience in medical, dental, life and disability plans.
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in presenting materials and information to individuals as well as large groups
  • Experience using computer-based information processing systems
  • Experience and competence working with accounting data and systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure and on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Strong analysis, auditing, and attention to detail skills
  • Strong knowledge in multiple areas of Benefits.
  • Proficiency in applying established standards.
  • Knowledge of employer sponsored insurance programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with benefit plan design and compliance reporting;
  • Considerable experience in collection, analysis, auditing, and reporting of data, including financial, enrollment, and utilization data
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service delivery, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of COBRA, HIPAA, Internal Revenue Code, and related state and federal regulations
  • Experience using a complex HRIS database and a strong aptitude for working with systems, including web-based tools and vendor web-sites
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding employees
  • Demonstrated maturity, sensitivity and respect in dealing with different level of employees in a fast-paced environment
