Description

The mission of the Flight Facility is to provide airborne platforms in support of specific research and development programs at Lincoln Laboratory. The Flight Facility provides a method of validation with actual field collected data. Facility aircraft are flown, maintained and managed by a professional staff of pilots, certified maintenance technicians, and administrative personnel. The Flight Facility's first priority is safety of flight. All flight operations are conducted using procedures and equipment that meet or exceed all applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements. As a result of various past airborne testing programs, mission-specific procedures have been developed. These procedures and the FAA regulations provide for safe and successful operations. The Flight Facility was created in the 1970's to support Division 4's early air-to-air collision avoidance research programs sponsored by the FAA. As the need for more extensive airborne testing increased, the Flight Facility has expanded to support a variety of Department of Defense and FAA programs. The Facility currently operates eight aircraft.

The Flight Facility at MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a Full Time Test Pilot reporting to the Chief Pilot. Candidate will be responsible for the safe conduct of all data and test flights to which assigned. As acting pilot in command, candidate must comply with all federal, state, local and foreign regulations as well as Company policies and procedures specified in the Flight Operations Manual. Must act with tact and decorum while ensuring an efficient and safe operation at all times. MIT Lincoln Laboratory test pilots must be able to hold U. S. Government security clearances as required. Travel with project aircraft is required.

The duties of the pilot in command include the following:

1. Flight test planning & test card buildup in a collaborative environment with the specific technical engineering groups and maintenance support team

2. Flight test execution in assigned aircraft

3. Flight test reporting as required

4. Preflight inspections

5. Study weather conditions at destination, enroute, alternate airports and departure points and make effective decisions based upon that information

6. Ensure that flight plans are properly prepared and filed

7. Ensure that the aircraft is prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the engineering crew

8. Review and calculate the aircraft weight and balance, fuel on board and performance charts to ensure an effective flight

9. Comply with schedules and other directives governing the aircraft's operation

10. Use Company standard operating procedures (SOPs)

11. Assist with field support coordination

12. Support Chief Pilot as required

13. Use proper Crew Resource Management (CRM) procedures

Requirements:

1. U. S. Citizenship is required

2. Commercial pilot certificate (Single engine, Multi engine and instrument ratings)

3. Formal flight test training highly desireable

4. Military flight experience desireable

5. Military flight test experience highly desireable

6. Flight test experience required

7. Air Transport PIlot desireable

8. Current FAA Medical Certificate (1st or 2d Class)

9. Minimum of 2,000 hours of pilot time

10. Minimum of 500 hours in turbine powered aircraft

11. Able to pass instrument competency check in the category of aircraft to be flown

12. Type rating in Falcon 20/HU-25, Gulfstream IV-SP highly desireable.

13. Experience in DeHavilland Twin Otters highly desireable

14. CFI/CFII highly desireable

15. FAA Unmanned Aerial System Operator License desireable (Military experience equivalent)
