Position Description:

Primary Function:

The Data Steward will work closely with Business Data Owners, Data Architects, Data Governance/Data Quality analysts and Operations team members to document and improve business processes, define business glossary, identify critical data elements, make sure that data managements policy and standards are implemented and enforced all the way from data entry to reporting. Data Stewards represent the needs of data users within their functional area in the data governance process.

This role requires the candidate to possess strong business and technical analysis skills to understand data lineage and consumption requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible and accountable for operational oversight of assigned data, interactions with Subject Matter Experts across business and for identifying the approach to standardize, measure and monitor data quality.
Ensure that data standards are defined and data management practices are implemented and enforced
Provide analytical and strategic support for the creation of data dictionaries, use cases, data lineage flows, presentations and other documentation
Assist in the preparation and presentation of initiatives to senior level management at Data Stewardship Council meetings.
Provide insight and guidance into data strategy, governance, and stewardship needs to continue to build a data quality environment
Support research of Data Governance methodologies and tools
Partner with business and technology to identify and implement enterprise data quality initiatives and business process improvement opportunities
Provide leadership and support on data usage, management, quality, strategy and stewardship related needs
Participate in the implementation and adoption of data governance related tools, including support, testing, metadata collection and maintenance
Establish subject matter expertise on data governance related tools
Understand data architecture standards and ensure data is fit for use
Evaluate technical data validation rules and define/maintain business rules for critical data elements



Position Requirements:
Qualifications:
5+ years in insurance or financial services or data related field, 3+ years in data governance/management related field preferred
Bachelor s degree in business related field, MIS or Information Technology a plus
Knowledge of the financial services industry, insurance industry a plus
Understanding of principles for writing definitions
Exposure to ACORD Frameworks
Foundational knowledge of Data Governance, Data Stewardship, and Data Quality best practices
Highly motivated self-starter, driven for results, effective at prioritizing and managing complex tasks
Understanding of project life cycle, project experience a plus
Ability to query databases to analyze data sets
Strong communication skills
Strong work ethic; intuitive, and strategic thinker
Ability to establish successful partnerships across business and technology
