About this job

Essential Functions:

1. Restroom/Bathrooms: Perform daily assigned work in public, community, private, and/or connecting bathrooms. Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, and sinks. Clean and disinfect showers. Sweep and mop floors including disinfecting , polishing faucetsand shower controls. High dusting of stalls and exhaust fans grills. Replenish tissue, soap, and bags as needed. Replace shower curtains when needed. Mold inspections on the ceiling and shower stall. Report and clean graffiti. 2. Floor Care: Perform floor maintenance on hard surface and carpet as assigned. Clean and disinfect floor surfaces. Sweep and mop floors on a daily basis including disinfecting. Strip and wax VCT floors in public areas and student rooms. Buff VCT floors as scheduled. Spot clean carpets when needed and perform carpet extraction as assigned. Vacuum carpets and clean daily. 3. Public Spaces: Clean hallways, lounges, stairwells, and landings, trash collection areas, computer labs, exercise rooms, lobbies, offices, kitchens, meeting rooms, laundry rooms, elevators and landings, and outside public areas daily. Dust and clean all walls, furniture, and appliances as needed. Move and rearrange furniture daily to be setup as scheduled. 4. Maintenance and Inspections: Inspect the building for maintenance needs and submit written work requests. Inspect all furniture for cleanliness, torn fabric or damaged broken components. Remove or replace any damaged furniture. Participate in Fire and life Safety inspections twice a year in student rooms. Maintain storage area and closets, cleaning equipment and supplies. Keep closet organized and free of safety concerns. 5. Room Preparation, Setup. Conference Service: Provide set-ups for check in and banquets, rearrange furniture for conferences to meet the needs of the conference as required. Prepare and clean meeting rooms. Service rooms used by conference and set up and clean rooms used by conference. Prepare rooms for fall and summer occupancy. Do set ups for events. 6. Communication: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Communicate with supervisor, staff, and student residents regarding needed repairs and work order status. Follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisor. 7. Documentation and Safety: Ensure that you clock in and out on time. Complete any paperwork requested by supervisor. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and ensure to properly report any unsafe condition and fill out the required report of injury form if injured. 8. Professional Development: Work in a diverse environment. Encourage, support, and promote diversity initiatives. Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Pushing, pulling and moving up to 80 pounds; Lifting and moving up to 62 pounds. Must be able to work under stress and as a team member.

Required qualifications

Six months experience in custodial maintenance. Experience following basic work instructions. Six months experience using carpet care equipment. Six months experience with floor care. Six months experience using custodial equipment. Six months experience in building cleaning and custodial work.. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. More than one year of janitorial experience in a large institution. More than one year of experience with vacuum cleaners, buffers, and floor machines. More than one year experience stripping and refinishing vinyl tile floors. Experience maintaining and extracting carpet. Experience in building services at the University of Texas. Experience working in a conference setting. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers. Excellent interpersonal communications kills.
