About this job

We are currently hiring for a Controls Engineer for one of our clients in the Louisville, KY area. They focus on design, build and commissioning for the material handling system. The major end users in that industry: UPS, FedEx and Amazon are spending a fortune on increasing the amount of automation in their facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Time for these folks with be split between design, programming and commissioning depending on which phase each project is in.


Hardware Design:

  • Interpret customer requirements and specifications
  • Develop and design electrical and controls system hardware schematics and drawings based on engineering principles using AutoCAD Electrical software.
  • Develop and design panel fabrication cabinet and subpanel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical software.
  • Create high level 1 line diagrams, network device layouts and field device layouts.
  • Develop electrical bill of materials based on customer specifications and requirements

Software/Programming:

  • Design and develop PLC and SCADA/HMI software applications based on customer provided requirements and specifications.
  • Design and implement network topology and infrastructure based on application requirements and specifications.
  • Create user manuals to communicate functionality of internally created programs for equipment applications.


Equipment Commissioning:

  • Ability to commission electrical controls systems and configure hardware per application specifications.
  • Create and implement an equipment checkout procedure to ensure hardware is functioning and mapped per customer specification ie. Panel component testing, flagging sensors to ensure intended I/O point is functioning properly, motor function checkout.
  • Ability to configure network capable devices in panel or on machine.
  • Ability to confirm application software is functioning per equipment process requirements through configuration and testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Preferred
  • Experience with control system design, controls panel design, PLC programming and commissioning for the material handling industry.
  • 1-5 years experience with BS Degree
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed up to 60% for commissioning new equipment and systems
  • Familiarity with Rockwell PLC and HMI hardware and software preferred
