Position Summary:The Assistant Director of FCS is responsible for supervising/managing the maintenance staff in the repair of all Columbia Public School facilities and the satisfactory completion of all work assignments through the Maintenance Direct work order system and Preventative Maintenance system. Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for effectively managing maintenance budgets relative to purchase card transactions, purchase order requests, and ensuring that purchased consumables/support items are competitively acquired and negotiated to maximize savings to the District.
  • Provide daily leadership to ensure resources, monetary and personnel are efficiently allocated to Facilities and Construction Services agenda.
  • Develop/Implement/Manage a preventative maintenance program.
  • Maintain cost effective consumables and high priority parts in warehouse stock for to allow for efficient and timely repair of facilities.
  • Responsible for review of completed work orders to ensure effective efficiency is achieved at the technician level, and data is complete.
  • Must have the ability to address, and formulate corrective actions for personnel actions
  • Hiring of full-time and temporary personnel to meet the needs of the department
  • Provides estimates of requested maintenance/capital work projects/repairs as required
  • Manages maintenance projects to ensure they are completed in a timely manner and within the budget
  • Coordinates work with outside contractors to ensure work is completed as contracted and in an efficient manner to minimize cost incurred by the District
  • Responsible for effective development of a statement of work for insertion in to RFPs
  • Responsible for developing work plans to effectively repair or replace major pieces of equipment or existing systems.
  • Responsible for developing a standardized protocol for replacement of components/assemblies to maximize standardization in the District.
  • In the absence of the Director of Facilities and Construction Services the Maintenance Operation Manager may be required to perform the duties of the Director as deemed necessary.
  • Professional knowledge of systems for the operation and maintenance of school facilities and grounds including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, HVAC systems, grounds maintenance and code requirements.
  • Effective/proven verbal and written communications.
  • Effective supervisory skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with administrators, staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize services and responses to work orders.
  • First aid and CPR certification or completion of certification in these areas within 90 days of the date of employment.
  • Be accessible by phone/page to handle facility emergencies during unscheduled work times.
  • Must have the ability to logically understand problems, their root cause, and formulate an effective solution
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft software packages.
  • Responsible for approving and overseeing maintenance personal wages and time clock
  • Responsible for Columbia School waste management program, sludge removal, Efluent levels, and reporting hazardous waste to the department of natural resources
  • Responsible in coordinating CPS related events
  • Coordinator overseeing the on call after hours and emergency calls
  • Responsible for district wide snow removal and driving AM snow route to inform CFO of road conditions
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director or his designee
  • Terms of Employment: Twelve-month contract, full time, salaried, exempt status
  • Education: College degree in Business, Engineering or Building Technology or related field preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
  • Certification: This position requires a “Journeyman Level Craftsman” qualified as an “Electrician, Plumber, Steam Fitter, HVAC Tech, DDC Control specialist, Boiler Operator or certification in facility maintenance or management.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in the maintenance field. Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
