Angel Food Bakery, an award-winning downtown Minneapolis gem with fabulous donuts, pastries, cookies, cupcakes and other treats, opened a sparkling new location at MSP Airport in mid-October 2016, and this position has competitive benefits such as MEDICAL, DENTAL, VISION, and even 401K!

 

We are a small collective of passionate bakers with a penchant for perfection...even the Food Network and Martha Stewart Living have noticed we bake completely from scratch with top quality ingredients, and we even took the top $10,000 prize at the Cooking Channel's Donut Showdown competition.

 

Our ideal match would be someone that is stoked on baking, but rather than being in a dingy back room hidden from the world, prefers to work in a lively "open kitchen" environment with awesome customers and happy, drama-free colleagues. This is a full time, year round position growth opportunities for an entry-level or seasoned baker.

 

Position Summary

Under the direction of Department Manager, you'll work with our team preparing all baked goods in accordance with our Operational Standards.   

 

Essential Functions:

  • Controls costs.
  • Maintains high-quality production.
  • Assist in the overall operation of the Bakery.
  • Coordinates the staffing and production needs of the Bakery with the Chef.
  • Establishes and maintains par stocks for all bakery products and coordinates with the Chef the ordering and use of food items to be used in the Bakery.
  • Maintains sanitary workstation.
  • Follows all storeroom-ordering procedures as directed by management.
  • Follows all recycling policies as directed by management.
  • Supports and ensures compliance with the Company’s environmental initiatives.
  • Other duties as required by management.

 

Non-essential Functions:

  • Completes end of day inventory and other opening/closing duties in accordance with company checklists and procedures 

 

Education & Experience:

  • Prior food preparation/baking experience preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of full-service kitchen operations required.
  • Must be able to obtain valid Safety and Food Handler’s permits.
  • Must be able to properly use all commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Requires the ability to quickly and efficiently follow written and verbal directions.

 

Professionalism:

  • Product knowledge: You gotta have it. You gotta want more of it. Our customers trust us to be baking experts.
  • Attention to detail: Everything matters. How a recipe is religiously followed every single time...even though we know them by heart, we still follow our recipe book without fail. How a donut is quickly iced without looking sloppy. We like to make our goodies taste amazing. We like them to look pretty. We hope you do too.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment self-sufficiently: We all need to take on many tasks from start to finish. Seeing a production list through and knowing when to ask for help are very important attributes in our ideal hire.
  • Basic knowledge of baking: We can always learn more, but do you know how to operate a 60-qt mixer? Do you know why it's critical to weigh ingredients vs eyeballing it? Do you "get" rotating stock? Being able to rock a recipe is very important. But if you don't, are you a quick learner? Have food service experience but never made donuts? We'll teach you how!
  • Pitching in: We bake. We clean up after ourselves. We fry donuts. We sweep and mop and do dishes to keep our kitchen shiny and clean because we love our gorgeous light-filled bakery. #BakeryLife #HardWorkButStillFun

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to lift fifty and carry up to (50) pounds consistently.
  • Must be able to consistently reach to heights of 35” to 70”.

Environmental Working Conditions:

  • Kitchen environment – noise levels may be moderate to high
  • Works frequently in a hot and damp environment.
  • In contact with sharp knives, slicers, boiling liquids, hot pans, etc.
  • Hazards include, but are not limited to, cuts from broken glass, metal cans, scalds and burns, slipping and tripping.
  • Frequently immerses hands in water.
