About this job

This entry-level accountant position works under the direction of an Accounting Manager to support accounting activities in the Sears merchandise/inventory accounting area. This position supports a variety of financial and non-financial systems that impact the general ledger and management reporting process and prepares and maintains financial schedules and analyses required to verify the accuracy of data interfaced into general ledger. This position uses accounting (GAAP) and systems knowledge to strategically work with the accounting manager and business partners to meet objectives and keep Sears' best interest in mind. This position focuses on refining existing and developing new processes to enhance reporting operations. This position has a heavy project oriented emphasis in addition to assisting in the weekly / monthly closing process, preparing and validating various financial reports, and ensuring the integrity of reported information. This position also trains associates within the accounting team (local and off-shore processing business partner) to meet business objectives. This position assumes the highest level of responsibility and accountability to the manager as well as fills in and performs duties of the manager in his/her absence.

Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (12+ hours of accounting course credit must be reflected in college transcript). Up to 2 years experience in an accounting-related position ideal, and preferably within a large revenue and/or retail related organization. Strong systems/technical aptitude with exposure to mainframe and spreadsheets (MS Excel, Essbase, Smartview). Ability to perform or develop skills in spreadsheet functions such as downloads, building formulas, pivot tables, queries and reports. Ability and willingness to travel, if required, for business. In any given year, up to two or three weeks of travel to India may be necessary. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 45+ hours/week; however, must be flexible in work schedule/hours in order to meet close periods and business needs.
